AB Walker, a family owned funeral director based in Reading, and an established part of the local community, has a vacancy for a casual funeral bearer.
We are seeking a respectful and dependable Casual Funeral Bearer to assist during funeral services. This role involves supporting the transportation and positioning of caskets with dignity and care. The position offers flexible hours and is an essential part of providing compassionate service to bereaved families. Candidates should be physically capable of heavy lifting and comfortable working in a sensitive environment.
Duties
- Assist with the respectful transportation of caskets from vehicles to the chapel or designated area.
- Support the positioning and arrangement of caskets during funeral services, ensuring proper handling at all times.
- Help with setting up and clearing funeral arrangements, including chairs and floral displays.
- Maintain a professional and compassionate demeanour throughout all duties, respecting the needs of grieving families.
- Follow health and safety guidelines meticulously to ensure a safe environment for all attendees and staff.

- Full, clean, manual driving license required.
Working hours
Our working hours are between Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.00pm.
Zero hours contract; the rate per carry is £28.00
Actual hours worked will be variable. They are dependent on both your availability and the business requirements.
