The Role
We are looking for an experienced and talented Alterations Seamstress/Tailor to join our close-knit workshop. Depending on your skillset and preference, we are offering either a permanent full-time position or a regular freelance arrangement. The hours are flexible but will include Saturday shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality alterations and repairs on men’s and women’s apparel.
- Take accurate body measurements and pin garments during customer fittings.
- Work with diverse fabrics, ranging from delicate silks to heavy wools and linens.
- Safely operate sewing machines, overlockers, and specialised workshop equipment.
- Provide friendly, professional style and fit advice to customers.
Requirements
- Proven hands-on experience as a professional tailor or seamstress.
- Minimum 5 years high end experience.
- Strong skill set in menswear jacket alterations is highly advantageous (e.g., shoulders, linings, sleeves).
- Excellent hand-sewing skills and machine proficiency.
- Flexibility to work Saturdays and adapt to a varied schedule.
- A warm, polite, and customer-focused attitude.

Responsibilities
- Measure clients accurately to ensure perfect fit and comfort for custom garments
- Sew, assemble, and finish garments with attention to detail, including hems, seams, zippers, and embellishments
- Alter and repair clothing items efficiently while preserving original design integrity
- Maintain a clean, organised workspace and ensure all sewing tools and equipment are in excellent condition
- Follow safety protocols when handling sewing machines, cutting tools, and other equipment
Experience
- Proven experience as a seamstress or tailor
- Proficiency in operating industrial sewing machines, overlocker, and other tailoring equipment
- Knowledge of various fabrics, textiles, and sewing techniques suitable for different garment types
- Excellent attention to detail with a focus on quality craftsmanship
- Strong time management skills to meet deadlines without compromising quality
Pay: From £17.00 per hour
