In addition to SEN TA's. We are also looking for an SEMH 1:1.
This role in particular will require someone with strong experience in children with SEMH needs, low arousal , low demand ,trauma informed practice and understanding of Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). This role is a 1:1 with a nearly 7 year old. There is flexibility in this role as the child's interests need to be followed and do not need to follow the class programme or be with the whole class all the time. There will be times when they just need someone to sit with them whilst they watch their favourite cartoon. Maybe even a trip together to the local park once settled. The child is very sporty and energetic so needs someone with a lot of energy but takes time to bond. They also need space to regulate their emotions regularly. The person working with them needs to be able to recognise this and know when to take a step back. Due to the child having PDA , demands and language need to be kept to a minimum to avoid meltdowns. Due to their black and white thinking the relationship needs to be managed carefully as they can go from really liking someone to strong dislike very quickly. They like to be in control and know what's happening, so need to be involved in a plan for their day, broken up in small parts. There will be opportunities to work with this child after the summer if all goes well.
Summary
This summer we will be a Brent HAF provider and funded by Sainsburys. Therefore we are expanding our team. We are looking for enthusiastic, caring and energetic Teaching Assistants to join our Summer Sports SEND Club. You'll support children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to take part in fun, inclusive sports, games and enrichment activities during the school holidays.
Working as part of a supportive team, you'll help create a safe, positive and engaging environment where every child can build confidence, develop new skills and enjoy being active. This is a rewarding opportunity for anyone passionate about working with children and making a difference.
We are looking for individuals who have:
Experience working with children or young people with SEND in schools
Experience working with children with SEMH needs in schools
A positive, patient and caring attitude.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
The ability to support and adapt to children with a range of needs
Confidence assisting with sports, trips, games and other activities
The ability to remain calm, flexible and proactive in a busy environment.
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Qualifications
Teaching Assistant or coaching qualification, or equivalent.
Experience in education, childcare, sports coaching or youth work.
First Aid qualification (desirable)
Enhanced DBS check on update service
Safeguarding trained
