Join our Physiotherapy team in the Western General Hospital, located in Edinburgh, one of the world's most vibrant and historic cities.
We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, proactive, and experienced Physiotherapist to join our Medicine of the Elderly and Frailty Physiotherapy team across the Western General Hospital (WGH) and the Royal Victoria Building (RVB).
The Medicine of the Elderly service spans Wards 50 and 51, Ward 70, and the short-stay frailty beds within Ward 72 at WGH. These areas provide specialist medical management and rehabilitation for older adults through a multidisciplinary team approach. Physiotherapists work closely alongside occupational therapists, nursing staff, medical colleagues, and the discharge hub to support patients with complex needs and promote safe, timely discharge planning.
The service is committed to delivering high-quality rehabilitation for frail older people, with a strong focus on maintaining activity and independence beyond formal therapy sessions. The successful candidate will provide advanced assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation for patients with a wide range of complex presentations.
As an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner (APP), you will play a pivotal role in the management of complex frailty and older adult care. You will provide expert clinical leadership, champion evidence-based practice, and contribute to service development and modernisation. Working in partnership with the Team Lead Physiotherapists, you will help ensure services continue to meet local and national priorities for older people and frailty care.
The APP will contribute to the clinical leadership and ongoing development of the wider Medicine of the Elderly Physiotherapy Service. The role offers opportunities to influence service improvement, quality improvement initiatives, workforce development, and the implementation of innovative models of care.
Applicants should demonstrate:

Significant clinical experience in older people's rehabilitation, frailty, or acute elderly care.

Experience in supervising, mentoring, and appraising staff and students.

A strong track record of effective multidisciplinary working.

Experience of service development and an understanding of Quality Improvement (QI) methodology.

Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
