Hotel Receptionist – Day Shifts with Night Cover The Birch Hotel
Job Overview
The Birch Hotel is seeking a warm, professional, and dedicated Hotel Receptionist to join our welcoming Front Office team. In this role, you will be the first point of contact for our guests, helping create memorable stays through attentive service and a seamless guest experience.
This position is primarily focused on daytime reception duties, working a mixture of early and late shifts depending on business needs. However, the role also includes covering a number of overnight shifts throughout the year, particularly during holidays, sickness, and additional operational requirements within the night team.
Candidates should therefore be comfortable working independently overnight and confident taking responsibility for the smooth running of the hotel during these shifts.

Responsibilities
- Welcome and check in guests with warmth, efficiency, and professionalism
- Manage guest check-outs, reservations, payments, and billing procedures accurately
- Provide excellent customer service and respond to guest requests promptly and professionally
- Maintain accurate guest records and communicate effectively with all hotel departments
- Support smooth hotel operations during both daytime and overnight shifts
- Provide overnight reception cover when required, ensuring guest safety and service standards are maintained
- Assist with basic night audit and end-of-day procedures when necessary
- Maintain a clean, organised, and welcoming reception area at all times
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in hotel reception, front office, or customer-facing roles preferred
- Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
- Friendly, approachable, and confident dealing with people from all walks of life
- Ability to work calmly and efficiently under pressure
- Flexible and reliable, with availability to cover overnight shifts when needed
- Comfortable working independently and taking responsibility during overnight operations
- Professional attitude with a genuine passion for hospitality and guest service
