Durham Cathedral Schools Foundation is seeking a reliable, practical and proactive Resident Caretaker & Maintenance Operative to join our Estates Team.
This is a varied and rewarding role for someone who enjoys practical work, takes pride in maintaining high standards and wants to become an integral part of a thriving independent school community.
About the Role
You'll be responsible for helping maintain our buildings and grounds, carrying out minor repairs and supporting the day-to-day operation of the School.
The role includes:
- General building maintenance and DIY repairs.
- Basic plumbing and mechanical maintenance.
- Setting up for School events, examinations and lettings.
- Supporting the security of the School, including evening locking-up and providing an out-of-hours presence on site.
- Occasional cover for the School's transport service (subject to the appropriate driving entitlement).
This is a full-time residential position, with on-site accommodation provided. The working pattern will generally be five days out of seven, including regular evening and weekend working.
We're looking for someone who:
- Has practical maintenance or caretaking experience.
- Has basic plumbing and mechanical knowledge.
- Is proactive, reliable and able to work independently.
- Takes pride in maintaining a safe, secure and welcoming environment.
- Holds a full UK driving licence.
- Is willing to live in the accommodation provided as part of the role.
D1 driving entitlement and previous school caretaking experience would be advantageous but are not essential.
