We are a small company who run several small residential homes for young people with significant learning disabilities and associated complex behaviours in Wellingborough, Northants. Due to an increase in staffing levels required and a new home opening imminently, we are looking for additional support workers to join our team. We would be open for applications from people willing to work either days, nights or a combination of the two.
The role involves shift work on a rotational basis including weekends and bank holidays, and involves supporting our young people with a range of daily tasks including trips out into the community, education, life-skills and personal care.
We are looking for positive, enthusiastic and motivated people with experience of caring for children and/or adults. If you have experience of working with people with disabilities, that would also be an advantage, as would being a driver, as our young people love to get out and about.
Any staff undertaking this role must also be aware that it is an Ofsted requirement to complete a Level 3 or above qualification in residential childcare within 2 years of starting the role.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- To plan and lead shifts in the absence of a team leader or senior member of staff.
- To follow care plans, risk assessments and behaviour guidelines in order to ensure that young people are supported in a fair, consistent and safe manner.
- To help plan, develop and actively participate in activities and outings that assist the young person in leading a fulfilling life.
- To support with meeting the personal, medical, educational and social needs of the young people, taking into account their abilities, preferences, thoughts, wishes and feelings.
- To assist in the implementation of keyworking sessions.
- To assist in the administration of medication.
- To establish and maintain positive relationships with the young people in your care in order to enhance their sense of security.
- To strive to hear, record and respect the ‘voice of the child’.
- To produce high quality notes and reports relating to the care delivered to the young people.
- To actively contribute towards the maintenance, cleanliness and health and safety of the home.
- To be professional and represent the values and visions of the company at all times.
- To be aspirational for the children in your care, and encourage development of independence skills.
