The Daily Knead is a small, independent artisan bakery in the heart of Totnes, handcrafting sourdough, pastries, and seasonal bakes with care, creativity, and quality.

The Role
We’re looking for an experienced baker to join our close-knit team. You’ll be working hands-on across all aspects of production — from mixing and shaping to baking and finishing — with a particular focus on sourdough, all things bread and assistnce with laminated pastries.
We need someone who can balance creative innovation with production consistency — someone who can dream up exciting new products while also ensuring we’ve always got beautiful loaves on the shelves when our customers walk in.
What You’ll Do
- Mix, shape, and bake a range of sourdough loaves and artisan breads
- Prepare and bake pastries (croissants, danishes, etc.)
- Bring creative ideas to the table — seasonal specials, new flavour combinations, or fresh takes on the classics
- Maintain consistency, quality, and attention to detail in every product
- Help plan production to keep up with demand and ensure the bakery is well-stocked
- Keep the bakery clean, organised, and efficient
- Work collaboratively in a small, supportive team environment
What We’re Looking For
- Previous professional baking experience, particularly in sourdough, breads but pastry too is a bonus
- A genuine passion for artisan baking, creativity, and craft
- Strong understanding of fermentation, dough handling, and proofing
- An eye for detail and an interest in developing new recipes and ideas
- Ability to work early mornings and thrive in a busy, hands-on environment
- A team player with good communication skills and a positive, proactive attitude
