Job purpose
To support the Quality Assurance and Technical functions of the bakery in ensuring the consistent production of safe, legal and high-quality products. The post-holder will carry out routine quality assurance activities, monitor compliance with food safety and quality systems, and work collaboratively with various departments to ensure that customer, legislative and company standards are achieved and maintained across the site.
Main Tasks:
The duties and responsibilities outlined below are intended to provide an overview of the key requirements of the role and are not exhaustive. The nature of the business may require the post-holder to undertake additional duties or adapt existing responsibilities in line with operational needs and business priorities.
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a flexible and proactive approach to their work, supporting the evolving needs of the Quality and Technical functions. In addition, QA cover is an integral part of this position.
The Role
- Maintain and review all Quality Assurance process control documentation, ensuring records are completed accurately and in accordance with site procedures and customer requirements.
- Conduct routine quality assurance checks throughout the production process to verify compliance with food safety, quality and legal standards.
- Carry out internal audits, including Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), documentation, glass and brittle plastic inspections, and other compliance audits as required.
- Provide quality assurance support and guidance to production, hygiene, engineering and other operational departments to promote and maintain site standards.
- Deliver training and support on Critical Control Points (CCPs), quality standards and food safety procedures as required.
- Assist in the preparation for and participation in internal, customer and third-party audits, including BRCGS certification audits.
- Support the investigation of quality issues, non-conformances and customer complaints, helping to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of food safety, quality and compliance systems across the bakery.
- Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role as directed by the Line Manager.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Sound knowledge and understanding of Food Safety principles, HACCP systems and quality management practices within a food manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications and other relevant computer-based systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across all levels of the business.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and support colleagues in maintaining food safety and quality standards.
- Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities effectively.
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and analyse information to support quality and compliance activities
