360 Excavator Operator / Multi-Skilled Groundworker
We are a small, family-run groundworks and civil engineering company based in Mawdesley, and we are looking for an experienced 360 Excavator Operator / Multi-Skilled Groundworker to join our team on a long-term basis.
This is a genuine 50/50 role between machine operating and hands-on groundworks. We are looking for someone who is equally comfortable operating an excavator or working on the ground with the rest of the team.
Most of the machine work will be on mini and midi excavators, although there will also be occasions where you may be required to operate a 13-tonne excavator.
Our work is varied and covers groundworks, civils, external works and remedial projects across the North West, so the role would suit a good all-rounder rather than someone who only wants to sit on a machine.
Working Hours Monday to Friday, 7:00am–5:00pm. The working day starts and finishes at our yard in Mawdesley, with travel to and from site forming part of the day.
The Role A typical week could involve a mixture of: -
Operating mini and midi 360 excavators -
Occasional 13-tonne excavator work -
Drainage and ducting -
Excavation and site preparation -
Foundations -
Concrete and floor slab works -
Kerbing and edgings -
Paving and external works -
Preparation for macadam and surfacing -
Retaining walls -
Fencing and landscaping -
Site clearance and minor demolition -
General remedial and maintenance works -
The role will be roughly 50% plant operating and 50% hands-on groundworks, although the balance will naturally vary from one project to another.
We are looking for someone who is happy to get out of the cab and work alongside the rest of the team when required, while also being confident and competent when operating plant.
What We Are Looking For Ideally, you will have: - Good experience in groundworks and civil engineering -
Experience operating mini and midi 360 excavators -
Experience on larger machines would be an advantage -
A valid CSCS card -
A valid 360 Excavator ticket -
A good understanding of drainage, levels and general groundworks -
A practical, hands-on approach -
Good workmanship and attention to detail -
Reliability and good timekeeping -
The ability to work well as part of a small team -
A professional attitude when dealing with clients and site management -
Two checkable work references
A full UK driving licence.
Additional plant tickets, including NPORS qualifications, would be useful, and having your own basic hand tools would also be an advantage.
What We Offer - Competitive rates based on experience and ability -
Regular, long-term work -
Monday to Friday working -
Company van -
NEST workplace pension -
Full PPE and workwear -
A varied mix of projects -
Additional training and opportunities to develop further skills -
The chance to work as part of a small, family-run business with a strong pipeline of work We are ideally looking for someone based within a sensible travelling distance of Mawdesley, as all operatives start and finish their day at our yard.
We are looking for someone we can rely on and keep busy long term — a capable all-rounder who can operate plant properly, work hard on the ground and fit well into a small team.
