Network Engineer (Security Systems & Client Deployments)
Avalon Artificial Intelligence Limited is looking for a Network Engineer to design, deploy, configure and support the networking infrastructure required for our Avalon Sentinel Suite and intelligent security systems across new and existing customer environments.
This is a hands-on engineering role combining network architecture, customer deployments, cybersecurity, remote connectivity and troubleshooting.
You will work closely with our Platform, Computer Vision and Software Engineering teams to ensure cameras, servers, edge devices, access-control systems and Sentinel services can communicate securely and reliably across customer networks.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and configure networking for new Avalon Sentinel Suite customer deployments.
- Assess existing customer network environments and determine the safest and most reliable integration approach.
- Configure and troubleshoot:
- LAN and WAN networks
- VLANs and network segmentation
- Routers and switches
- Firewalls
- VPNs
- Subnets and routing
- NAT and port forwarding
- DNS and DHCP
- Wireless networks
- Secure remote-access solutions
- Connect CCTV cameras, NVRs/DVRs, servers, edge devices and security equipment to Avalon systems.
- Configure reliable network connectivity for IP cameras and real-time video streams.
- Troubleshoot RTSP, ONVIF and other IP-based camera connectivity issues.
- Ensure high-bandwidth video and AI workloads operate reliably across customer networks.
- Design network segmentation so security cameras, AI servers and customer business systems can remain appropriately isolated.
- Implement secure remote connectivity for deployment, maintenance and technical support.
- Build and maintain site-to-site and remote-access VPN solutions where required.
- Configure network routes between customer infrastructure, edge systems and approved cloud services.
- Diagnose packet loss, latency, jitter, bandwidth limitations and connectivity failures.
- Use network diagnostic tools to identify the root cause of complex customer connectivity problems.
- Configure firewall rules and access-control policies using the principle of least privilege.
- Support secure communication between customer sites and Avalon-controlled infrastructure where applicable.
- Maintain network reliability and availability for production Sentinel installations.
- Monitor network health and identify connectivity or performance degradation.
- Assist with network incident response and troubleshooting for existing customers.
- Work with Platform Engineers during Sentinel deployments and upgrades.
- Work with Computer Vision Engineers to ensure camera feeds and video streams are delivered reliably to AI processing systems.
- Document network architectures, IP addressing, VLAN configurations, firewall rules and deployment procedures.
- Create reusable network deployment standards and configuration templates.
- Help automate repeatable network configuration and validation tasks.
- Ensure customer deployments follow appropriate security and networking best practices.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone with practical experience in network engineering, infrastructure networking or security-system networking.
You should have experience with some of the following:
- TCP/IP
- IPv4 networking and subnetting
- VLANs
- Static and dynamic routing
- NAT
- DNS
- DHCP
- Firewalls
- VPNs
- Switching and routing
- Wi-Fi networking
- Linux networking
- Network troubleshooting
- Network monitoring
- Secure remote access
Experience with networking equipment or platforms from vendors such as the following would be beneficial:
- Cisco
- MikroTik
- Ubiquiti
- Fortinet
- TP-Link
- UniFi
- pfSense / OPNsense
- Sophos
- Juniper
We do not expect candidates to have experience with every vendor or technology listed.
Security & Surveillance Networking
Because Avalon develops intelligent security systems, experience with CCTV, IP cameras or physical-security networks would be particularly valuable.
Useful experience may include:
- IP cameras
- NVR and DVR systems
- RTSP
- ONVIF
- PoE networking
- Camera VLANs
- CCTV network design
- Video streaming over IP
- Multi-camera installations
- Network bandwidth planning
- Remote camera connectivity
- Secure access to geographically distributed sites
Experience with manufacturers such as Hikvision, Dahua, Axis, Hanwha or similar IP surveillance systems would be beneficial.
Additional Technical Experience
Experience with any of the following would also be useful:
- Linux
- Docker
- Kubernetes networking
- Cloud networking
- AWS, Azure or Google Cloud
- Tailscale, WireGuard or OpenVPN
- Cloudflare networking
- Reverse proxies
- Nginx
- SSL/TLS certificates
- Network automation
- Python or Bash scripting
- Prometheus/Grafana or similar monitoring platforms
- Zero Trust networking
- Network security and access control
The Ideal Candidate
You will be someone who:
- Enjoys diagnosing complex networking problems.
- Can understand an unfamiliar customer network and quickly determine how it is structured.
- Understands how routing, firewalls, NAT, VLANs and VPNs interact.
- Can distinguish between application problems and underlying network problems.
- Thinks carefully about security when exposing devices or services remotely.
- Understands the importance of network segmentation in security environments.
- Can troubleshoot issues systematically using evidence rather than assumptions.
- Is comfortable working directly with routers, switches, firewalls, cameras and servers.
- Can communicate clearly with both technical teams and customers.
- Is comfortable remotely supporting customer environments.
- Can document network configurations so deployments are repeatable and maintainable.
- Takes ownership of problems from initial investigation through resolution.
What You Will Work On
Avalon Sentinel deployments can involve multiple systems operating together, including IP cameras, AI processing servers, access-control devices, edge systems, customer networks and cloud services.
The Network Engineer will ensure these components can communicate securely and reliably.
You may work on challenges such as connecting cameras located on separate network segments, establishing secure remote connectivity to customer sites, designing camera VLANs, diagnosing unreliable video streams, integrating edge AI servers into existing customer networks, configuring firewall policies and ensuring that networking remains stable as deployments scale.
The role is therefore an important bridge between physical security infrastructure, IT networking and Avalon's AI platform.
About Avalon
