We're looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate Facilitator to join our team at HMP Doncaster, delivering an engaging literacy programme that supports learners to improve their reading, writing and communication skills while building the confidence needed to progress into education, training and employment.
About the Role
As a Facilitator, you will provide high-quality on-site delivery and programme administration, delivering engaging literacy sessions to learners who may have previously disengaged from education.
Working across residential wings and education settings, you will build positive relationships with learners, carry out assessments, monitor progress and create learning environments where individuals feel safe, supported and motivated to succeed.
You will also help develop a peer mentor programme, enabling learners to support one another and creating a lasting legacy across the prison.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging literacy sessions within HMP Doncaster.
- Carry out learner assessments and identify individual learning needs.
- Develop and review Individual Learning Plans.
- Support learners working at Entry Level and below.
- Embed literacy within practical, vocational and employability contexts.
- Deliver learner-centred, trauma-informed sessions that promote confidence and resilience.
- Provide day-to-day programme administration, including registers, learner records and progress monitoring.
- Maintain accurate documentation and management information.
- Support the recruitment, training and supervision of peer mentors.
- Work closely with prison staff, education teams and Neurodiversity & Inclusion colleagues to identify and support learners.
- Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, inclusion and British Values throughout delivery.
- Contribute to quality assurance activities and continuous improvement.
About You

You'll be confident building relationships, motivating learners and creating positive learning experiences that inspire change.
Essential
- Experience delivering youth work, community work, education, training or group facilitation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills.
- Experience supporting individuals with barriers to learning.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to safeguarding and equality.
Desirable
- Experience delivering literacy or Functional Skills.
- Experience within prisons, secure settings or community programmes.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practice.
- Understanding of neurodiversity and inclusive teaching approaches.
- Experience supporting learners with low levels of literacy.
