We are currently recruiting for Criminal Intelligence Analysts and have either current or future vacancies within Avon and Somerset Intelligence Department, Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) and Southwest Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU).

The Role
As an Intelligence Analyst, you will play a key role in identifying, planning and conducting the collection and analysis of intelligence from a variety of sources, including crime data, digital information and open-source material. You will need to quickly understand, interpret and process large volumes of information to support intelligence-led decision-making.
Full training will be provided in the analytical techniques used to assess threat, risk and harm, identify intelligence gaps and make evidence-based recommendations, you will become an integral part of the intelligence cycle, helping to develop intelligence products that support the disruption of serious and organised crime.
We are currently recruiting in these areas:
Intelligence Department
1 x permanent role in the Force Intelligence Bureau (FIB) based as Kenneth Steele House, Bristol
1 x Fixed term contract role up to 12 months in the High Harm Team based as Kenneth Steele House, Bristol
1 x Fixed term contract role up to 12 months in the Local Intelligence Team, based at Concorde House, Bristol
MCIT
1 x Fixed term contract role up to 12 months in MCIT based at Kenneth Steele House, Bristol
Main Responsibilities
Proven experience of intelligence analysis processes and/or intelligence led approaches
Experience working in an advisory/consultancy capacity - able to demonstrate professional credibility with colleagues and stakeholders
Excellent IT skills including extensive experience using all common Microsoft packages including Excel and specific analytical software programmes
Proven experience of quantitative and qualitative analysis including statistical analysis
Proven experience of structured analytical techniques, inference development and hypothesis testing
Ability to act on own initiative, to own and manage issues with minimal supervision
Demonstrable ability to make clear, timely and justifiable decisions based on an informed rationale.
Excellent interpersonal skills - including verbal and written communication, presentation skills to communicate findings and appropriately influence decision makers
Skills, experience and qualifications
Be qualified to degree level in a relevant subject or equivalent relevant experience
You will be required to achieve and maintain IPP Accreditation and full training will be provided.
Hold a full current driving licence or be able to travel around the force / region area using alternative transport

Recruitment Process
The recruitment process includes a work-based assessment for shortlisted candidates and if successful at the assessment, candidates will be invited to attend an interview.

Shortlisting will take place week commencing 17th August 2026
Assessments are due to take place online on 25th August 2026
Interviews are planned to take place on 1st and 2nd September 2026
If you are successful in the recruitment process, we will offer you a role within one of the departments depending on vacancy availability. Or you may be placed on a reserve bank for up to 6 months and could be offered future part time or full-time vacancies across Avon and Somerset Intelligence and Tasking, MCIT or SWROCU.
Additional Information
The starting pay grade for Intelligence Analysts is Scale SO2, (£40,383). All analysts have an opportunity for progression to Scale PO2-5 Higher Analyst role (£42,612-£45,765) via an assessed competency scheme. Intelligence Analysts will be required to obtain and maintain the Intelligence Professionalisation Programme Certification.
To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 5 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 5 years.
