Job Summary
We're looking for reliable backup/relief Newspaper Delivery Drivers to cover shifts on an as-needed, casual basis in the Liverpool area. This is not a full-time or guaranteed-hours role — shifts become available on an ad hoc basis (e.g. holiday cover, sick days, time off) and are allocated first come, first served among our pool of approved drivers. It's a great fit if you want flexible, occasional paid work and don't mind an early start.
How it works
- £50 per shift (flat rate, per completed round)
- Shifts are NOT guaranteed or scheduled in advance — they come up as cover is needed
- First come, first served among approved drivers — reply promptly to claim a shift
- Once you accept a shift, you're committed to completing the full round — all deliveries must be finished
- Typical start time is around 2:00 AM, though this can shift later depending on what time the papers arrive from the printer
- If you're quick and organised, the full round can be completed in around 4 hours
- You'll need to be available at short notice and comfortable with early/unsociable hours
Duties
- Safely operate a delivery van (or similar vehicle) to deliver newspapers along a set route in Liverpool
- Load newspapers into the vehicle, keeping them organised for efficient drop-off
- Deliver directly to customers' doors or designated points, completing the entire round before finishing
- Plan or follow an efficient route to ensure timely, full completion
- Note any delivery issues or customer feedback
- Carry out basic vehicle checks before setting off
- Help with loading/warehouse tasks at the distribution point when needed
What we're looking for
- Valid full driver's licence with a clean record; van/commercial driving experience preferred
- Comfortable driving in the very early hours (from ~2AM)
- Able to lift and carry bundles of newspapers
- Reliable — once you claim a shift, you're expected to complete it in full
- Good communication and time-management skills
- Own transport to get to the depot/start point
- Previous delivery, driving, or warehouse/logistics experience is a bonus but not essential
