Shift Mechanical Engineer
We’re looking for an experienced Shift Mechanical Engineer to join the engineering team at a large manufacturing facility in Ellesmere Port.
This is a permanent position carrying out planned and reactive maintenance across a range of mechanical and building services equipment, including boiler plant, ventilation systems, pumps, generators and associated plant.
The role operates on a structured 4-week shift rotation, including a 7-day break every four weeks:
- Week 1: 4 nights, 3 days off
- Week 2: 3 days, 1 day off, 3 nights
- Week 3: 3 days off, 4 days
- Week 4: 7 days off
- Day Shift: 06:00 – 18:00
- Night Shift: 18:00 – 06:00
What You'll Be Doing
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance across mechanical and building services equipment.
- Respond to reactive maintenance and emergency breakdowns.
- Maintain and fault find on boiler plant, ventilation systems, pumps and associated equipment.
- Support maintenance across generators, switchgear, batteries and lighting systems where required.
- Diagnose faults and carry out repairs efficiently.
- Complete all maintenance records and paperwork accurately and on time.
- Ensure maintenance tasks are completed within contractual timescales.
- Supervise visiting subcontractors and ensure work meets required Health & Safety standards.
- Support energy-reduction initiatives across the site.
- Assist other engineers and members of the maintenance team when required.
- Ensure all work is carried out safely and in line with site procedures.
What We're Looking For
- City & Guilds Level 2/3 or equivalent within a relevant mechanical discipline.
- Previous experience within commercial or industrial maintenance.
- Experience maintaining and fault finding on boiler plant, ventilation and pumps.
- Broader building services knowledge including generators, switchgear, batteries and lighting would be beneficial.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Good understanding of Health & Safety and safe working practices.
- Ability to complete maintenance and compliance documentation accurately.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Proactive and flexible approach to maintenance.
- Ability to pass a Basic DBS check.
