Birchwood Medical Practice
Dr Pinch and Partners operating as Birchwood Medical Practice is a 8 Doctor dispensing practice providing care to approximately 12,000 patients in and around North Walsham.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and hardworking Medical Receptionists to join our busy team. The post is 37.5 hours per week over 5 days (Monday – Friday) with occasional holiday and sickness cover where appropriate.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Answering the telephone in a timely manner
- Booking appointments
- Liaising with clinical staff
- Giving out test results

Candidates must have excellent customer service skills and be able to work well under pressure. It is essential to be a good communicator, to work well within a team and to have an understanding of confidentiality due to the nature of the role.
Experience
Previous Medical Reception and SystmOne experience is desired but not essential.
Salary:
Hourly wage starting from £13.45 per hour.

Job Description
Job Title: Receptionist
Reports To: Reception Team Leader
Job summary:
Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.
Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other Visitors, either in person or via the telephone.
Job responsibilities:
- Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice
- Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments.
- Using your own judgment and communication skills, ensure that patients with no prior appointment but who need urgent consultation are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner.
- Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover, and ensure procedures are completed.
- Receive and make telephone calls as required. Divert calls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate delivery.
- Enter requests for home visits into the visit book, ensuring to carefully record all relevant details and referring to duty doctor where necessary.
- Advise patients of relevant charges for private (non-General Medical Services) services, accept payment and issue receipts for same.
- Enter patient information on to the computer as required.

Premises:
- Open up premises at the start of the day when first to arrive, de-activate alarm and make all necessary preparations to receive patients.
- When last to leave at the end of the day, ensure that the building is totally secured, internal lights are off and the alarm activated.
- Undertake any other additional duties appropriate to the post as requested by the partners or the practice manager.

Education and Qualifications
Essential
- Good general education with good numeracy and literacy skills
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Previous experience of using IT in a working environment
- Previous experience of customer care or dealing with members of the public in a frontline role
Desirable
- Experience as a Medical Receptionist in a GP surgery
- Knowledge of SystmOne
- Medical terminology
