PRIMARY PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE JOB:
To provide a comprehensive waste collection and recycling service. This will include the collection of recyclable and non-recyclable household waste from properties within the Borough.
To be responsible for the supervision of and direction of subordinate staff as necessary.

Tuesday - Friday
6:30am - 4:15pm
KEY TASKS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- To collect, as part of a team, household waste for recycling/disposal from properties within the Borough.
- To assist the public when/where possible in a courteous and helpful manner at all times.
- To assist in the promotion of the waste collection and recycling service, to include distribution of literature.
- To work in any area, or with any crew as directed.
- When required to drive a refuse collection/recycling vehicle, to do so in accordance with the current traffic regulations and health and safety policies and practices.
- To complete the relevant vehicle safety check-list and ensure the vehicle is fit for use in accordance with legal requirements. Report any vehicle defects to the Vehicle Maintenance Unit. Ensure the vehicle is cleaned weekly and the cab is kept clean and tidy and free from litter and debris at all times.
- To complete any necessary paperwork relating to the operation of the refuse vehicle as required and submit to the Vehicle Maintenance Unit.
- To work as part of the Waste Collection team to ensure a first class Waste Collection Service is provided to the residents of the Borough.
- To undertake an environmental stewardship role and report any issue within the street scene environment (graffiti, flytipping, potholes etc) to the relevant officer .
- To be responsible for the Health, Safety and Welfare of self, colleagues and any other person who may be affected by your actions/omissions whilst at work in accordance with the Health and Safety Policies of the Council.
- To undertake such other duties and responsibilities of a similar or lower skill level as may reasonably be required within Environment Management Services.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 1 year of Class 2 (LGV) driving experience
- Full UK driving licence with no more than 6 points
- Valid Driver CPC and Digital Tacho Card
- Physically fit and able to perform manual handling tasks
- Previous refuse or recycling driving experience is desirable
- Must provide own PPE (boots, orange ballistic trousers, either orange or yellow waterproof trousers and jacket.)
