About Us
Causeway & Mid Ulster Women’s Aid (CMUWA) is a specialist domestic abuse charity supporting women and children across a large geographical area which includes Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council and the Mid Ulster District Council area.
We are one of eight Women’s Aid groups in Northern Ireland and proud members of Women’s Aid Federation Northern Ireland. Together, we work to create safety, hope, and long-term change for women and children affected by domestic and sexual violence. At CMUWA we provide support across our community. We operate two refuges and deliver support through Floating Support services, as well as projects such as SureStart, ensuring women and children have access to safety, stability, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives.
We are seeking a Chief Executive Officer to lead our organisation into its next phase of strategic growth, innovation, and impact.
The Role
The CEO will be responsible for providing strong and compassionate leadership across the charity. You will ensure that our services remain safe, high quality, and accessible, while strengthening our influence across statutory, voluntary, and political stakeholders in NI. Working closely with the Board of Trustees, you will shape long term strategy, champion the voices and rights of survivors, and lead the organisation with integrity, clarity, and commitment.
Key Responsibilities
· Provide visionary, survivor centred‑ leadership rooted in the values and mission of the charity.
· Ensure safe, high quality‑ domestic abuse services, including refuge, outreach, advocacy, and preventative programmes.
· Maintain the highest standards of safeguarding and risk management for women, children, staff, and volunteers.
· Lead the development and delivery of organisational strategy and annual operational plans.
· Oversee financial sustainability, income diversification, funding bids, commissioning processes, and partnership development.
· Build strong relationships with key NI stakeholders including the Department of Health, Department of Justice, PSNI, local councils, Women’s Aid groups, and other voluntary and statutory partners.
· Act as the charity’s public representative, shaping policy and raising awareness of domestic abuse issues affecting women and children in Northern Ireland.
· Foster a supportive, inclusive, and resilient organisational culture grounded in trauma ‑informed practice and staff wellbeing.
· Provide effective leadership and development for management teams, frontline staff, and volunteers.
About You
We are seeking a courageous, compassionate, and resilient leader who is deeply committed to ending domestic abuse and advancing safety and equality for women and children. You will bring:
· Significant senior leadership experience gained in a relevant setting.
· Demonstrable experience in leading multiservice teams delivering complex, crisis‑ focused or specialist support.
· Proven expertise in organisational management, strategic planning, finance, and charity governance.
· Ability to build and maintain high value partnerships with statutory agencies, funders, and policymakers.
· A track record of securing funding, grants, and commissioning contracts.
· Outstanding communication, advocacy, and influencing skills.
· Emotional intelligence, resilience, and the ability to lead confidently during challenging situations.
· Experience working directly or indirectly with domestic abuse survivors and/or trauma informed‑ services is highly desirable.
