About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and practical Production Operative with Supervisor Duties to join our blinds manufacturing team.
The successful candidate will work alongside the production team manufacturing made-to-measure blinds while also helping to organise daily workloads, coordinate production priorities, support employees, monitor quality, and ensure customer orders are completed accurately and on time.
This position would suit someone who enjoys being actively involved on the production floor but also has the experience and confidence to take responsibility for the team and workflow when required.
Full training in the manufacture of our made-to-measure blinds will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
Hands-On Manufacturing
- Work directly alongside the production team manufacturing made-to-measure blinds.
- Carry out cutting, assembly, finishing, quality checking, packing, and other production duties as required.
- Manufacture customer orders accurately according to measurements, specifications, and production instructions.
- Operate production machinery, tools, and equipment correctly and safely.
- Assist with different stages of production depending on workload and daily priorities.
- Check finished products to ensure they meet company quality standards before packing and dispatch.
- Identify manufacturing or quality problems and help resolve them quickly.
- Help minimise manufacturing errors, remakes, material waste, and downtime.
- Maintain a clean, safe, organised, and efficient working environment.
- Lead by example by maintaining high standards of productivity, quality, attendance, and workmanship.
Supervisory Duties –
- Help organise and oversee the day-to-day production of made-to-measure blinds.
- Plan and coordinate workloads to achieve daily and weekly production targets.
- Allocate employees to different production tasks according to priorities, skills, and order volumes.
- Coordinate workflow across cutting, assembly, finishing, quality checking, packing, and dispatch preparation.
- Conduct start-of-day or shift briefings, communicating targets, priorities, urgent orders, and other important information.
- Monitor production progress throughout the day and take action when targets or customer deadlines are at risk.
- Support, motivate, and assist production employees throughout the working day.
- Help train new and existing employees in production processes and working standards.
- Identify production delays, material shortages, equipment problems, and quality issues and escalate or resolve them appropriately.
- Ensure materials, components, fabrics, and equipment are available when required.
- Monitor quality and ensure customer orders are produced accurately and to specification.
- Maintain high standards of health and safety across the production area.
- Maintain appropriate production records and communicate performance, issues, and improvement opportunities to management.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving productivity, quality, workflow, and reducing waste.
Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience working in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Previous experience supervising, leading, or coordinating a small production team.
- A willingness to spend the majority of the working day actively involved in manufacturing.
- A practical, hands-on approach and the ability to lead by example.
- Experience working to daily production targets and customer deadlines.
- Good leadership and people skills.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- Good attention to detail, particularly when working with made-to-measure customer orders.
- An understanding of quality control, waste reduction, productivity, and manufacturing efficiency.
- The ability to organise workloads and make effective decisions in a busy production environment.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with management and other departments.
The Person
We are looking for someone who is practical, reliable, organised, and comfortable taking responsibility on the production floor.
This is not a purely supervisory or office-based position. The successful candidate will be expected to work alongside the production team and be directly involved in manufacturing.
You should be comfortable switching between manufacturing products yourself and stepping into a leadership role when production priorities require it.
You will be expected to lead by example, keep production moving, support colleagues, identify problems before they affect customer orders, and maintain high standards of quality, productivity, and safety.
Previous experience manufacturing roller blinds, vertical blinds, Roman blinds, Venetian blinds, shutters, curtains, or other made-to-measure window coverings would be particularly beneficial, although full product training will be provided.
