Trenchline Utilities is a family‑run business specialising in excavation and construction throughout East Sussex. As we continue to grow, we are looking for motivated and experienced Highways Operatives to join our reactive maintenance team.
This is a key role involving emergency and reactive works on the local highway network, helping keep roads, footways, and essential infrastructure safe and compliant.
Role Responsibilities
- Respond to urgent defects including potholes, damaged signs, kerbs, drainage issues, and surface deterioration
- Attend emergency call‑outs, including road closures, debris removal, flooding response and winter maintenance
- Set out traffic management in line with Chapter 8 requirements
- Maintain a safe working environment through correct use of cones, barriers, signage, and PPE
- Follow all Health & Safety procedures, RAMS, and reporting processes
- Operate tools, plant, and small machinery safely and efficiently
- Carry out daily vehicle checks and maintain equipment
- Interact professionally with the public, colleagues, and supervisors
- Record works completed using handheld devices or job management systems
- Support team members and participate in standby rotas, overtime, night work, and emergency call‑outs
Required Skills & Qualifications
✔ NRSWA (Street Works) Operative – Essential
✔ Experience in excavations, drainage, civils, traffic management, and white/black works – Essential
✔ Full clean driving licence with towing capability – Essential
✔ Valid CSCS card – Essential
Desired (not essential):
- HGV Class 2
- EUSR Cat 1 & 2
- Excavator ticket
