Job Title: Registered Manager - Respite Care

The role of Registered Manager Respite Service Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this role is responsible for the leadership, development, and overall management of our specialist respite service. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring individuals receive safe, person-centred, and outcome-focused care while maintaining full compliance with CQC regulations and organisational standards.
The successful candidate will oversee the daily operation of the respite service, support and lead the staff team, promote independence and wellbeing for the individuals we support, and contribute to the continued growth and quality improvement of the service.
Responsibilities of Registered Manager - Respite Care
Service Leadership and Management
- Provide effective leadership and management of the respite service on a day-to-day basis.
- Ensure the service operates in line with CQC regulations, company policies, and best practice guidance.
- Promote a culture of dignity, respect, safeguarding, inclusion, and person-centred care.
- Lead, supervise, and support staff to maintain high standards of care and professionalism.
- Participate in recruitment, induction, supervision, appraisal, and staff development processes.
- Manage staffing levels, rotas, and resource allocation effectively.
Care Planning and Quality Assurance
- Oversee assessments, admissions, and transition planning for new individuals accessing the service.
- Ensure comprehensive care plans, risk assessments, and support documentation are developed, reviewed, and maintained accurately.
- Monitor and evaluate the quality of care provided and implement improvements where required.
- Ensure medication systems, safeguarding procedures, and health and safety requirements are consistently followed.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare reports as required by the organisation and regulatory bodies.
Communication and Partnership Working
- Build and maintain positive relationships with individuals, families, social workers, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders.
- Act as the main point of contact for external agencies and professionals involved in the individuals care and support.
- Promote effective communication within the staff team and across the organisation.
- Work collaboratively with the Managing Director and wider management team to support service development and operational goals.
Additional Registered Manager Responsibilities
- Support the continuous improvement and development of the respite service.
- Participate in audits, inspections, and meetings with regulatory bodies including CQC.
- Promote positive outcomes, independence, and meaningful experiences for the individuals we support.
- Maintain awareness of current legislation, best practice guidance, and sector developments.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training opportunities.
- Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness to meet the changing needs of the service.
Skills and Experience for our Registered Manager - Respite Care
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care (or willingness to work towards).
- Previous experience in a management or senior role within health and social care.
- Experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities, autism, and complex needs.
- Strong understanding of CQC regulations, safeguarding, and person-centred care.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.
- Strong commitment to delivering high-quality care and positive outcomes.

About the Role
This is a rewarding opportunity to join a well-established, person-centred respite service as our Registered Manager. We are a small, close-knit service supporting three individuals who have been with us for a number of years. Our clients, their families, and our team have built strong, trusting relationships making this a genuinely positive and stable environment to work in.
As Registered Manager, you will take overall responsibility for the management and compliance of our regulated respite service, ensuring it continues to deliver the high-quality, person-centred support our clients and their families have come to rely on. Given the size and nature of the service, you will also be expected to work on the floor and provide direct support to clients when needed so a hands-on approach is essential.
This role is an excellent platform to either utilise your existing CQC registered status or to gain it, whilst growing your leadership and management experience in a supportive setting.

We provide respite care to young adults with a learning disability and accompanying complex needs. Our service is small but highly valued our clients have been respiting with us for years and genuinely enjoy their time with us. We maintain excellent relationships with family members and operate with very few conflicts, thanks to our consistent, person-centred approach. You will be stepping into a settled, well-functioning service with a strong foundation already in place.
What We Are Looking For
We are seeking an experienced and motivated individual who is either already registered with the CQC or is working towards registration. You will hold, or be actively working towards, a Level 5 NVQ/Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care (or equivalent).
You will also bring:
- A thorough working knowledge of CQC regulations, the Care Act, the Human Rights Act, and other relevant legislation
- Proven experience working within a care, supported living, or respite environment
- Strong interpersonal skills and the confidence to lead and develop a staff team
- Excellent organisational and communication skills, with a good standard of written English
- The ability to drive positive culture and embed policies and procedures effectively
- A proactive, hands-on approach and a willingness to support clients directly when needed
- Pride in delivering quality, person-centred care and excellent customer service
- Basic IT skills
