About the Role:
As one of our Catering Assistants, you’ll play a vital role as the face of The Deli, delivering an outstanding experience for both staff and students. Working as part of a supportive and energetic team, you’ll collaborate across both Front of House and Back of House, helping to keep our outlet running smoothly while also supporting our hospitality and catering students in delivering a high-quality daily food service in Stevenage.
You’ll play a key part in supporting teaching sessions by ensuring our commercial environments are well-organised, stock is effectively managed, and deliveries are accurately received and checked. From stock rotation to maintaining excellent food safety standards, you’ll share responsibility for keeping everything compliant, safe, and efficient.
Working closely with tutors, colleagues, and students, you’ll help prepare and maintain welcoming public areas, ensuring they meet the highest standards through daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning routines. Flexibility is key in this role, as you may also provide cover in other hospitality and catering areas, including Hitchin, when required.
This role offers a dynamic and hands-on environment and may include evening and weekend work during term time.

The College operates across three main campuses in Stevenage and Hitchin, employing over 650 staff. With a turnover of £30m, the college provides learning opportunities to over 10,000 students each year from study programmes for 16-18 year olds and apprenticeships through to adult provision locally, regionally and nationally. Job Description
Role and Responsibilities

Basic food production and serving of customers by delivering exceptional customer service including cash handling and managing of floats
- General support with the running of The Deli in Stevenage
- Ensuring that all food and drink is prepared, cooked and served in strict accordance with the Government’s Food Standards and Health & Safety Policy and other relevant legislation including Natashas law
- Assist in the delivery of any special dietary requirements and hospitality & catering as required.
- Deal effectively with staff and learners daily and advise on availability of services
- Assisting, loading and clearing an industrial dishwasher, washing of pans and other equipment and cleaning down all services at the end of service including sweeping and mopping floors and any other tasks that the Head of Department may require
- Working alongside the Head of Department ensuring that all Environmental Health paperwork is completed and updated regularly
- Assisting when required during practical teaching sessions in the Hart Kitchens Hub to include working with students
- Cleaning, organisation and re-stocking of dry storage area, chiller units, fridges and freezers
- Help in the liaising with central support staff eg Estates, IT, Marketing etc
- Help to always maintain the professional image of all of the Hospitality & Catering areas.
- Ensure that stocks are always kept secure.
- Maintain high standards of health and safety at all times an in accordance with the college and curriculum area policy. and to notify line manager or appropriate manager of any risks or concerns about health and safety.
- Checks to ensure that all equipment is in working order
- Provide cover in the absence Hospitality & Catering staff in other areas if required including Hitchin
