Although this job listing states that we are based in Truro, our volunteers come from many areas of Cornwall (Penzance, St Austell, Bodmin, Camborne, etc).
Activities are all throughout Cornwall.
Overview
The 'Get out there Cornwall' group is a short break service for older children (10 - 18 years old) with sensory impairments. Our group is a part of Sense, the national deafblind charity. Some of our young people are hard of hearing, have a vision impairment or have some condition that affects their ability to sense the world. Our group takes them on days out to the zoo, cinema, horse riding, canoeing, flying etc. Volunteers go on the activities with the young people to keep them company and make sure they are having fun. A volunteer's admission to any activity is paid for by the group and meals are also paid for.
Benefits of volunteering with our group:
Work experience
Whether you're studying or looking for work, volunteering with us will provide great work experience. It will also help you develop the skills you need.
Making new friends
Sometimes life changes leave us a little isolated. Volunteering with us will help you get you out of the house and create new friendships
Giving something back
Maybe you've benefitted from volunteering services in the past. With us, you'll be able to give something back.
Date and times for activities vary and volunteers can go on as many or as little activities as they please. Volunteers typically spend a few hours a month volunteering with us.
Our young people are independent. There is no personal care involved. This is a supportive role rather than a care role.
