Fat Fluffs is looking for someone to take charge of looking after the health, welfare, wellbeing and happiness of the, up to 70, rescue rabbits on site starting November 2026. This is a hands-on role and the work can be varied, fast paced and demanding, and there will be countless opportunities to experience new challenges and learn new skills. The role will be as part of the onsite team who will be there to support you as you develop and learn.
We are looking for someone who is keen, compassionate, hardworking, has a caring personality, an enquiring mind and is dedicated to the values of Fat Fluffs. We need someone who can be flexible and adaptable and enjoys new challenges. Hands on animal care experience is essential, whether at home or work, with an understanding of animal behaviour and welfare. An ability to understand IT competency and good communication skills are essential as is the ability to manage your own time, be organised and professional. Relevant qualifications and previous rabbit experience are a preference as is a UK driving license and own transport. We offer 28 days holiday, a modest wage and training will be provided. This role will be Monday to Friday 09:30 – 16:30 with the occasional requirement to work a weekend day in lieu.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- To manage and adapt the food requirements, manage the health, grooming, environmental hygiene, general welfare and enrichment of all rescue rabbits
- To ensure that daily weights and weekly health checks are carried out on all rabbits
- To assess common health issues and administer appropriate medication to any rabbit showing signs of ill health
- To arrange and undertake vet visits for routine vaccination and neutering of rabbits and for non-standard health issues of any rabbit
- To ensure accurate records are kept of each animal and their progress is routinely monitored through record data analysis and any action taken as necessary
- To ensure that any concerns about a rabbit’s health or behaviour are effectively communicated to other staff members and relevant volunteers
- To administer medication, monitor health status and undertake grooming and health checks on boarding rabbits as requested by owners
- To ensure any rabbits coming into the rescue for boarding or bonding are in good health and advise appropriately if there are issues
- To support the Bunny Handling Volunteers to ensure the health and wellbeing of all rabbits on site are maximised
- To assist the Site Administrator and Team Leader with other task around the rescue as required
Knowledge and Skills needed:
- The ability to confidently handle the rabbits and assess their needs and health.
- To effectively communicate concerns and suggestions with other team members and be open to advice with regards to health and welfare.
- Confidence to effectively communicate with vets any concerns and the desire to learn and progress own skills from watching professionals.
- To recognise the rabbits’ individual needs and respond accordingly with regards to, but not limited to, feed, environment, socialisation and wellbeing.
- To be organised, reliable and responsible and be an effective communicator able to work as part of a team as well as individually.
- To be efficient in the use and analysis of data recorded in the current record program ZIMs once training has been completed.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- A genuine passion for animal welfare and commitment to ethical treatment of all animals.
- To be able to work outside throughout the year
We are looking for the right person to join our team, not necessarily the most qualified. This job will start November 01st 2026. All training will be given both with regards to animal care and system reporting. We are also open to hearing from those looking for part time work; afternoon hours can be adjusted for the right person, morning hours are non negotiable.
