A welcoming and inclusive Primary School in Haringey is seeking a dedicated Pastoral Mentor to join their team from September. This is a full-time short-term temporary position with no fixed end date, offering the potential to become a permanent member of staff for an outstanding candidate.
This rewarding role is perfect for someone with experience supporting children with social, emotional and behavioural needs who is committed to improving wellbeing, attendance and engagement across the school.
The Role – Pastoral Mentor
As a Pastoral Mentor, you will play a vital role in promoting positive behaviour, improving attendance and supporting pupils who require additional emotional and pastoral support. Working closely with senior leaders, teachers, parents and external agencies, you will help children overcome barriers to learning and thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing targeted pastoral support for pupils with behavioural, emotional and attendance needs
- Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils and their families
- Promoting positive behaviour and implementing restorative approaches
- Delivering interventions and supporting pupils during break and lunchtime
- Monitoring attendance and working with families to improve school attendance
- Supporting vulnerable pupils and those transitioning into or out of the school
- Working alongside teaching staff, SEND professionals and external agencies to provide joined-up support
- Maintaining accurate behaviour, attendance and safeguarding records
- Acting as a positive role model throughout the school community
The Ideal Candidate – Pastoral Mentor
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous experience working with children with behavioural, emotional or additional needs
- A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Experience working within a Primary School or similar educational setting
- Excellent behaviour management and de-escalation skills
- The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues
- Strong organisational skills and confidence managing behaviour and attendance records
- A calm, resilient and proactive approach
- A relevant qualification in education, youth work, pastoral care, child development or a related field is desirable
