Purpose of the Role
A PBS Support Worker operating within this structure provides high-quality, hands-on social care delivered through a proactive, behavioral framework. They are responsible for:
- Consistent Plan Implementation: Strictly following the proactive, active, and reactive strategies outlined in an individual’s PBS plan to keep people safe and calm.
- Accurate Data Logging: Real-time, precise recording of behavioral data, ABC charts, and incident logs into the internal data systems.
- Promoting Independence: Using Active Support techniques to help individuals learn new skills, make choices, and participate in daily life, rather than doing everything for them.
- Positive Communication: Using person-centred communication, reading early signs of distress, and using de-escalation techniques to prevent crisis situations.
- Active Engagement in Debriefs: Participating openly in post-incident reviews with the Team Leader to learn from challenging behavior and adapt approaches.
- Maintaining Dignity: Championing the individual's rights and ensuring care is delivered with zero reliance on unnecessary restrictive practices.
- Service Insertion: Enter volatile or failing service environments with a calm, professional presence.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate environmental and behavioral triggers immediately to ensure safety.
Clinical & Behavioral Support
- PBS Implementation: Execute complex Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plans with high fidelity and minimal restriction.
- Proficient Interventions: Utilize Breakaways and Restrictive Physical Interventions (RPIs) proficiently while training others in de-escalation.
- Functional Assessment Support: Assist clinicians by collecting high-quality data (ABC charts) and observing real-time behavior patterns.
- Restrictive Practice Reduction: Proactively shift environments and teach skills to reduce the need for restrictive interventions.
Responsibilities and DutiesRole-Specific Duties
The PBS Workers responsibilities include but are not limited to the following;
- Ensure service users are at the heart of care delivery, honoring their wishes and preferences.
- Support service users with all aspects of day-to-day living to enable a high quality of life.
- Perform as a lone worker when required, ensuring all night and safety checks are conducted effectively.
- Carry out regular welfare checks and report concerns immediately to the manager on call.
- Maintain infection control through household and domestic duties (laundry, cleaning, tidying).
- Follow care plans strictly and inform the Service Manager/Head of PBS of any changes in user needs.
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of all individuals supported by the service.

- Working with Others: Develop effective relationships with colleagues and multidisciplinary teams; support service users in maintaining family and social connections.
- Professional Growth: Act as an ambassador for the service, seeking learning opportunities and attending all statutory and service-specific training.
