EXVAC Equipment Sales Ltd is seeking an experienced and proactive Workshop Controller to lead the maintenance and repair operations for our Rivard franchise and sister fleet. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all vehicles are maintained in line with legal and safety standards, optimising workshop productivity, and managing a team of technicians to deliver exceptional service. The ideal candidate will have a strong HGV maintenance compliance background.

Exvac Equipment Sales Ltd are the UK & Ireland distributors for Rivard, a French manufacturer of Sewage and Earthmoving Equipment.
Our sister company LMD Vacuum Excavation is one of the UK's leading specialist vacuum excavation contractors. Founded by Mick Dysart, who invested in the company's first vacuum excavator in 2014, the business has grown to operate a fleet of more than 40 vacuum excavation machines across the UK.
LMD specialises in using high-powered vacuum excavation technology to safely expose underground utilities, reducing the risk of damaging buried gas, water, electricity, and telecommunications services.
The company supports major projects in the utilities, construction, highways, and infrastructure sectors, with a strong focus on safety, innovation, efficiency, and protecting critical underground assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operation of a busy HGV workshop.
- Lead, motivate and develop a team of HGV Technicians and apprentices.
- Plan and allocate workloads to maximise workshop productivity and vehicle uptime.
- Ensure all servicing, inspections, repairs and MOT preparation work is completed to manufacturer and DVSA standards.
- Monitor workshop performance, labour utilisation and efficiency.
- Oversee quality control procedures and conduct final vehicle inspections.
- Manage workshop health & safety and ensure compliance with company policies.
- Control parts ordering, workshop consumables and stock levels.
- Liaise with drivers, transport teams and external suppliers to minimise vehicle downtime.
- Ensure accurate completion of maintenance records and compliance documentation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across the workshop.
- Assist with recruitment, training and performance management of workshop staff.
Who We're Looking For
- Proven experience managing or running an HGV workshop.
- Strong understanding of maintenance obligations relating to an Operator Licence.
- Good knowledge of the Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness and its practical application.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Competent IT skills and confidence using computer-based systems.
- Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to maintaining high standards.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.

Pay: £32,000.00-£36,000.00 per year
