JOB DESCRIPTION: CARE ASSISTANT

PURPOSE AND SCOPE
To provide a high standard of care to the client, ensuring their needs and wishes are considered.
To undertake all duties as detailed in the client’s care plan.
Assist the client with personal, domestic, and extended activities of daily living whilst respecting their choice, privacy and dignity.
Administer client’s medication at designated times and keep a written record of same.
Use assistive equipment safely and appropriately as per the care plan.
Under the supervision of the multidisciplinary team, utilise intervention strategies and techniques to assist in the provision of a flexible, client centered programme of care for the client.
To work effectively as a member of a team in providing a programme of home and community based therapeutic activities.
Under supervision of the multidisciplinary team, engage the client in therapeutic activities to promote their independence and well-being.
Ensure that any equipment used is cleaned regularly as per cleaning schedule and report any malfunctioning of equipment immediately to the Case Manager.
To form a professional relationship with the client, the client’s family, and care team.
To keep a written record of all intervention in compliance with locally agreed guidelines.
To attend formal supervision with Case Manager at agreed timescales.
To keep a record of training and development activities and competencies achieved.
To attend all mandatory training and any other training deemed necessary.
To identify equipment/materials needed and feedback as appropriate to Case Manager.
To exercise good personal time management, punctuality, and consistent reliable attendance.

Essential Criteria
· NVQ Level 2 in Health and Care related subject or equivalent
· Five years experience of working within an adult care setting
· Experience of working with adults who have complex needs
· Knowledge of spinal cord injury and its impact on function
· Able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
· Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
· Able to report on client progress
· Willing to undertake training requirements of the position
· Good time management skills
· Able to adopt a flexible approach to therapy
· Willing to participate in supervision
· Full driving licence and willing to transport client in their vehicle to social/other community events
Desirable Criteria
· NVQ Level 3 in Health and Care related subject or equivalent
· Relevant degree
· Knowledge of Safeguarding and Health and Safety
