Mr Gyros – Shift Leader / Keyholder
Location: Mr Gyros
Role: Shift Leader / Keyholder
Reports to: Store Manager / Management
Employment: Full-time / Part-time depending on requirements
About the Role
Mr Gyros is looking for an experienced, confident and proactive Shift Leader / Keyholder to help keep our restaurant running smoothly and maintain the high standards we expect.
This isn't a desk-based management role. You'll be working alongside the team, serving customers, preparing food and helping during busy periods while taking additional responsibility for the restaurant and the team during your shift.
You'll also be trusted as a keyholder, including responsibility for opening and closing the restaurant when required.
We can get extremely busy, so we're looking for somebody who can stay calm under pressure, think on their feet and keep multiple things moving at the same time.
Key Responsibilities
As a Shift Leader / Keyholder, you will:
- Open and/or close the restaurant in accordance with Mr Gyros procedures.
- Act as a trusted keyholder and ensure the premises are left safe and secure.
- Help coordinate the team throughout the shift and make sure everyone knows what they should be doing.
- Lead by example and work alongside the team, particularly during busy service periods.
- Make sure orders are prepared accurately, efficiently and to the standards expected by Mr Gyros.
- Keep an eye on waiting times and proactively identify problems before they affect customers.
- Support the organisation of dine-in, takeaway, collection and delivery orders during busy periods.
- Make sure cleaning, food preparation and other shift duties are completed.
- Maintain excellent standards of food hygiene and cleanliness throughout the restaurant.
- Ensure food safety procedures, temperature checks, cleaning schedules and other required checks are completed correctly.
- Monitor stock levels during the shift and flag shortages or potential problems.
- Deal professionally with customer queries and resolve straightforward complaints where possible.
- Make sure customers receive friendly, welcoming and efficient service.
- Support newer or less experienced team members.
- Make sure staff remain productive and maintain expected standards throughout their shift.
- Identify and report any staffing, equipment, food safety, customer or operational issues to management.
- Complete closing checks and other end-of-shift responsibilities when required.
What We're Looking For
Previous food or hospitality experience is essential.
You should also have previous experience of at least one of the following:
- Supervising staff;
- Leading a team;
- Running a shift; or
- Taking responsibility for an operation when a manager or supervisor is not present.
We're particularly looking for someone who:
- Can remain calm and organised in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
- Is confident working during very busy service periods.
- Has excellent multitasking skills and can prioritise what needs doing.
- Has fantastic standards of personal hygiene, food hygiene and cleanliness.
- Provides genuinely great customer service.
- Is proactive rather than waiting to be told what to do.
- Can spot potential problems and take sensible action.
- Is confident giving direction to other team members when necessary.
- Is reliable, punctual and trustworthy.
- Is comfortable taking responsibility for opening and closing the restaurant.
- Communicates clearly with both staff and management.
- Has a strong work ethic and isn't afraid to get stuck in.
- Takes pride in maintaining high standards even when the restaurant is extremely busy.
The Person We're Looking For
The right person will naturally look around during a shift and think:
"What needs doing next?"
Rather than waiting for a manager to tell them.
You'll need to be able to serve customers, monitor orders, support the kitchen, keep an eye on the team, maintain cleanliness and deal with unexpected problems — sometimes all at the same time.
When things get busy, we need someone who stays calm, prioritises and finds solutions.
Level of Responsibility
This role carries additional responsibility but is not a Store Manager position.
The Shift Leader / Keyholder is expected to provide direction and coordinate team members during their shift, particularly when management is not on site.
Formal employment matters such as recruitment, disciplinary action, changes to employment terms and other management decisions remain the responsibility of Mr Gyros management.
What We Offer
- A responsible role within a growing independent food business.
- The opportunity to develop leadership and hospitality experience.
- A fast-paced and friendly working environment.
- Training on Mr Gyros operating procedures and standards.
- Opportunities to take on further responsibility as the business grows.
If you're experienced in food or hospitality, enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and are the type of person who sees what needs doing and gets it done, we'd love to hear from you.
