Pastry Chef Stalybridge
Location: Stalybridge
Hours: 27 a week over 4 days (two-week rota)
Rate: £13.50 - £15 per hour
Contract: Fixed-term (3 months) with a clear path to permanent
About the role
We're a long-established family bakery in Stalybridge, under new ownership and investing properly in our range. We're building a two person new product team and looking for a Pastry Chef to sit alongside our development baker creating the modern, shareable lines customers are asking for, and helping the team keep our daily production sharp.
What you'll do
On your development days (Mon & Thu, 10am–3:30pm, when the bakehouse is quiet):
- Develop new lines with real patisserie finish — filled and finished doughnuts, cookies and traybakes, cheesecakes, croissant hybrids and whatever's moving right now
- Work as a pair with our development baker, taking ideas from concept to a sellable, repeatable, properly costed product
- Present them well — finish and visual matter here as much as taste
On your production mornings (4am–12pm):
- Work alongside the bake team on our existing range
- Leave the line better than you found it — next-day prep that smooths the morning peak, re-engineering batches, cutting waste. You're not just covering shifts, you're improving how we work
Who we're looking for
You're likely working at chef de partie level, or as an established pastry chef experienced enough to develop and finish a product to spec on your own, and hands-on enough to enjoy a busy production morning
- Proven pastry, patisserie experience with a strong visual finish
- A genuine feel for what's trending and shareable
- Reliable on a busy production morning and you can hold your own on the bench
With your application, please send:
- 3–5 photos of your own finished work
- A link to any social or content you've made
- Two lines on a product you developed from idea to sale
(Applications without the photos won't be shortlisted — we want to see what you make.)
The hours, honestly
Around 27 hours a week over 4 days, and you get every other weekend off. Two 10am development days (Mon & Thu) and two 4am production mornings. Wednesday is always one of them; the other is Friday most weeks, moving to Saturday every other week with the Friday off that week. Regular overtime opportunities at seasonal peaks, always with notice.
To apply
Send your CV and the three items above. Shortlisted candidates are invited to a paid trial bake.
