About the Role
We are looking for a friendly, hardworking, and enthusiastic General Assistant to join our butchery and fine foods shop.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who takes pride in excellent customer service, high standards, and quality food. The successful candidate will work across the shop, supporting the butchery and retail team as well as helping to maintain the presentation and reputation of the business.
We specialise in high-quality venison, Scottish beef, and game, alongside a carefully selected range of fine foods, so an appreciation of premium produce and attention to detail is important.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcoming customers and providing friendly, knowledgeable service.
- Serving customers across the shop and assisting with product enquiries.
- Supporting the butchery team with preparation, packing, labelling and presentation of products.
- Handling and presenting high-quality beef, venison and game to a consistently high standard.
- Preparing and replenishing displays, chilled cabinets and fine food areas.
- Packing customer orders and ensuring products are correctly labelled and presented.
- Receiving, checking and storing deliveries appropriately.
- Maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness, hygiene and food safety throughout the shop.
- Operating the till and processing customer payments accurately.
- Keeping the shop, counters, equipment and storage areas clean and organised.
- Assisting with stock rotation and monitoring product quality and availability.
- Working as part of a small team to ensure the shop runs efficiently.
- Carrying out other general duties as required.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Friendly, approachable and confident dealing with customers.
- Reliable, punctual and willing to get stuck in.
- Well presented and able to maintain high standards of personal hygiene.
- Comfortable working in a busy, hands-on food retail environment.
- Passionate about quality food and interested in learning about butchery and game.
- Organised, attentive to detail and able to work efficiently.
- A good team player with a positive attitude.
- Physically capable of working on your feet and handling stock.
- Flexible and willing to undertake a variety of duties.
Must have previous experience in game handling and preparation with regards to birds, rabbits, hares, and venison. Butchery experience would be an advantage but certain elements of training pertaining to the role will be provided.

Hours: Wednesday- Saturday 07:00 -16:00
Holiday entitlement: 28 days between January and September
