Summary
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Parts Department Manager to lead our busy automotive dealership parts operation. This is a key role within the business, responsible for ensuring the efficient running and profitability of the parts department while delivering outstanding service to both internal and external customers.
You’ll work closely with the Service teams to ensure the right parts are available at the right time, helping to maximise workshop efficiency and customer satisfaction. The successful candidate will be confident working independently, managing all aspects within a fast-paced SME environment
Key responsibilities:
· Manage, lead, and develop the parts team, including parts coordinators, over -counter sales and stores staff
· Ensure compliance with dealership policies, manufacturer standards, and health & safety regulations
· Manage all aspects of parts inventory, ensuring optimal stock levels and accuracy
· Oversee ordering, returns, and obsolescence in line with manufacturer standards
· Work closely with the Workshop Controller to ensure technicians have the correct parts on time to reduce vehicle downtime through effective parts supply
· Support warranty claims with accurate parts documentation
· Build strong relationships with trade customers and suppliers
· Monitor department performance, including sales, margins, and KPIs
· Monitor delivery times, pricing structures, and parts availability
· Ensure exceptional customer service across all touchpoints
· Analyse trends and produce regular performance reports
· Achieve key targets including gross profit, stock turn, and parts availability
· Minimise losses through stock discrepancies and obsolescence
About You / Qualifications
· Proven experience in an automotive parts department (dealership experience preferred)
· IMI or automotive related qualification desirable
· Strong knowledge of automotive parts, systems, and manufacturer catalogues
· Experience using Dealer Management Systems (DMS) and parts software
· Excellent leadership and staff management skills. Supervisory or management training desirable
· Strong organisational and stock control abilities
· Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
· Commercially aware with a focus on profitability
· Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills
