Nash Civils Ltd is looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our growing team.
We welcome applications from experienced Quantity Surveyors seeking part-time or flexible working arrangements, including those looking to reduce their hours while continuing to share their expertise.
This is a hands-on role where you'll play a key part in managing project costs from tender stage through to final account. You'll help minimise costs and commercial risk while ensuring projects deliver excellent value, meet quality standards, and comply with all relevant legislation and building regulations.
Key Responsibilities
As our Quantity Surveyor, you will:
- Prepare cost estimates and tender submissions.
- Analyse project costs, including materials, labour, plant and timescales.
- Assist in establishing client requirements and undertaking feasibility studies.
- Prepare tender and contract documentation, including bills of quantities.
- Negotiate contracts and work programmes with clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
- Monitor project costs and manage variations throughout construction.
- Carry out cost analysis for repair and maintenance projects where required.
- Advise on procurement strategies and commercial matters.
- Identify, assess and manage commercial risks.
- Provide advice on contractual claims and dispute resolution.
- Produce accurate cost reports, valuations and profitability reports.
- Value completed works, manage applications for payment and oversee final accounts.
- Maintain a strong understanding of current construction contracts and legislation.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements.
- Attend site visits as required and work closely with project teams to ensure commercial success.
Salary
Competitive salary, dependent on qualifications, skills and experience.
Working Hours
This role is offered on a part-time basis, with the possibility of full-time hours for the right applicant.
Flexible working arrangements may also be considered.
What to Expect
The role is primarily office-based but will also involve regular visits to construction sites. Appropriate PPE must be worn when attending site.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants should have:
- A degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), or an equivalent qualification.
Essential Skills
The successful candidate will have:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
- Strong commercial awareness and business judgement.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office (experience with estimating and commercial software would be advantageous).
- Excellent organisational and project management skills.
- A practical, logical and methodical approach to work.
- High attention to detail.
- The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Confidence working independently and as part of a team.
- A good understanding of construction methods, contracts, legislation and commercial practices.
Experience
Previous Quantity Surveying experience within the construction or civil engineering sector is essential.
Experience working on civil engineering, groundworks, infrastructure or utility projects would be advantageous.
