Communications and Marketing Officer
About the Organisation:
Public Health Scotland launched on 1st April 2020 as a national health board, employing around 1200 people, with an annual budget of around £101 million. We want to see a Scotland where everybody thrives, a Scotland where life expectancy improves and the difference in life expectancy between our poorest and wealthiest areas gets smaller.
The Post:
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and play a key role in shaping how Public Health Scotland (PHS) communicates with the public, its partners and the media. We’re looking for a proactive Communications and Marketing Officer who works collaboratively to translate complex public health issues into clear, engaging communications that engage, inform and support people across Scotland.
Key responsibilities include:
Work across an aligned and multidisciplinary team to coordinate and support, plan and deliver targeted communications and marketing activity
Plan and create high quality, memorable social media content (including short videos) using tools such as canva and where applicable working with the team and media buyer to plan audience-specific strategic paid-media approaches
Evaluate the success and impact of the work of the team
Provide dynamic, on the ground input across the communication and marketing functions
Support responses to media enquiries and internal requests from across PHS
Liaise with partners including Scottish Government, charities, NHS 24, COSLA, health boards and the third sector to co-ordinate and maximise communications opportunities
Spot proactive opportunities to promote, position and protect our reputation and strengthen the visibility and impact of our work
The Candidate:
Success in this role requires a proactive stance, great people skills, an eye for detail and experience in planning and developing motivating content. Experience of working in a busy communications or marketing environment would be helpful as would an understanding and interest of the media and wider political and social landscape in Scotland and the rest of the UK.
You will have an appreciation of positive stakeholder working, influencing and people skills and enjoy working as part of a collaborative team. You must be able to work well under pressure, juggle competing priorities and deliver to tight deadlines.
