The role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our established Community Occupational Therapy service within North East Glasgow Specialist Children’s Services.
Within Specialist Children’s Services, Occupational Therapy is an integrated and valued part of the multidisciplinary team. This role will involve providing high quality Occupational Therapy services to children with various developmental and neurodevelopmental needs. The post will involve completing Occupational Therapy assessments, goal setting, evidenced based interventions and reviews to support participation in everyday activities.
Whilst experience of working within community paediatric occupational therapy is highly desirable, it is not essential.
We recognise that a desire to work within the speciality will be the key to your success in the post. This is an opportunity to develop clinical Occupational Therapy skills within the specialty of Community Paediatrics.
We are looking for individuals who are: organised, motivated and enthusiastic to be part of a developing service. You must be able to demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills when working with children, young people and their families. Additionally, you will be expected to build working relationships with: multidisciplinary team colleagues, local schools and nurseries. Work is delivered within a tiered model of service including at universal and
targeted as well as specialist level.
You will be provided with a robust induction that includes both Occupational Therapy specific aspects and also multi-disciplinary team input. We are committed to providing regular supervision and you will be given the opportunity to access regular CPD opportunities.
As this is a community post a current driving licence is required. The post also involves working in two clinic bases as well as educational settings and the homes of children and young people
All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

There is a fixed term contract until 10/07/2028.

Full-time position (36 hours per week).

Shift pattern for this post is Monday to Friday.

Key responsibilities:
-
To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of the practitioner’s professional activities.
-
To be responsible and accountable for developing, managing and implementation of patient care programmes and specialist patient care packages in paediatric occupational therapy and to input to board wide care programmes.

To co-ordinate intervention that may include other disciplines; advises and educates patient/carers /relatives /other health professionals

To work closely with teachers and support staff within the Education department to ensure that the child is assisted to achieve both therapeutic and educational targets by setting joint targets and inputting into Children’s Plan.

To provide occupational therapy services as lone practitioner in Clinic, patients home, nursery, primary and secondary schools both mainstream and special school locations as required.

To manage clinical risk within own caseload and that of designated team at all times.

To take responsibility for the ongoing management of clinical caseload including those duties delegated to others whilst duty of care is held by the practitioner. This will include the planning of straightforward and complex activities within the child’s care plan, which requires ongoing monitoring and adjustment to meet the child’s needs

To ensure that the agreed quality standards of service, based on professional guidelines and standards from BAOT Clinical Practice, and national guidelines are maintained and to work with the Team Leader in this area

To flexibly plan and organise own time and liaise with team to include patient care, training, supervision and meetings.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy

Health Care Professions Council Registration
-
Post Registration Experience in Paediatric OT
-
Advanced knowledge and experience of a wide range of approaches to the management of Paediatric conditions

Advanced knowledge of normal childhood development

Experience of service development both in design and application
-
Good working knowledge of all areas of clinical governance including quality, audit and risk management

Good understanding of statistics and their evaluation
