Job Description
We are looking for experienced and compassionate females to support a male client with a C5/6 spinal cord injury. The client is highly independent and likes to direct his own care but requires full assistance with personal care, mobility and daily activities.
This is a temporary position covering long term sickness which will take place at the client’s home, accompanied by another member of staff, as the client is a 2:1 package. Alongside a core team of 10 you will work a fixed rota which includes weekdays and weekends, you will also be required to be on standby for one week out of four, alternating between day and night every four weeks.
Rate of pay
Ø £15 per hour is the day rate
Ø £80.75 is the sleep rate
Ø Minimum wage is the standby rate
Ø Plus, bonus (after 3-month probation)
Key responsibilities
Ø Personal Care: Full assistance with washing, dressing, and general hygiene with person centred care in mind
Ø Bowel care and bladder management daily
Ø Autonomic Dysreflexia (AD) management – carers MUST be highly knowledgeable and experienced in recognising and managing symptoms. (Training provided)
Ø The client has a ceiling hoist, you will be required to hoist the client into his wheelchair when needed
Ø Light house duties including cleaning, washing and occasionally shopping
Ø Medication administration: Manage medication schedules and dispense medication. Collecting prescriptions
Ø Accompany the client on days out mainly in the evening to a restaurants
Ø Completing paperwork such as daily record sheet including stock management sheets
Person specification
Ø We are looking for a highly professional and experienced (at least 12 months preferred) female carer
Ø Experienced in spinal cord injury care, particularly C5/6 injuries, bowel management, and AD awareness
Ø Respectful of the clients' independence – he likes to direct his own care and also prefers carers who follow their initiative
Ø Reliable, compassionate, and patient, with excellent communication and organisation skills. Also, a good sense of humour
Ø Flexible and willing to pick up extra shifts
Ø Excellent English Language to prevent communication errors
Ø The PA must have a full UK driving license (insurance covers all age groups) to drive a wheelchair accessible vehicle (transit van size)
Ø This role is not open to individuals requiring sponsorship
Ø All successful applicants will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check

Shift Pattern
Each rota is consistently 4 weeks, 1 of which is a standby week. Working both weekdays and weekends. (Does not apply to waking night shifts)
Ø Day Sleep shift – 7 shifts spread over 3 weeks. The shift is 15.5 hours at the daily rate plus 8.5 hours at the sleep rate.
Ø Day shift – 7 shifts spread across 3 weeks. The shift is 12 hours at the daily rate.
Ø Waking Night shift – 10 shifts spread across 4 weeks. The shift is 12 hours at the daily rate.
Ø Standby shift – 7 shifts spread across 1 week. The shift is 12 hours at the minimum wage rate, alternating very 4 weeks between 1 week of day standby then 1 week of night standby
