Clay Coffee + Kitchen is a high-quality, premium café and kitchen opening in Gravesend, built around great food, excellent coffee and a genuinely welcoming, relaxing atmosphere.
The space itself is a big part of the experience. Clay features a beautifully designed, luxurious interior that feels calm, warm and inviting. Downstairs, the coffee bar and kitchen will serve a busy daytime trade with a strong focus on consistency, quality and pace. Upstairs, there is a dedicated children’s play space, making Clay a place where families, friends and professionals can all feel comfortable spending time.

The Role
This is an opportunity to be part of Clay from the very beginning.
As a Kitchen Assistant, you’ll play a key role in supporting the day-to-day running of the kitchen, working closely with the Head Chef to help keep service smooth, organised and efficient.
You’ll be involved in food preparation, maintaining cleanliness, supporting service and making sure the kitchen is always set up and ready to perform. This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced but well-structured environment where standards matter and teamwork is everything.
You’ll be part of a small, supportive team, helping bring the kitchen to life from day one and contributing to a space people genuinely enjoy working in.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Supporting with food preparation and basic cooking tasks
- Assisting the Head Chef and kitchen team during service
- Keeping the kitchen clean, organised and compliant with hygiene standards
- Washing up and maintaining a steady flow of clean equipment
- Helping with deliveries, stock organisation and storage
- Supporting daily setup and close-down of the kitchen
- Playing a key role in keeping the kitchen running efficiently behind the scenes
Experience
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has some experience working in a kitchen (ideal, but not essential)
- Is hardworking, reliable and willing to learn
- Takes pride in cleanliness and organisation
- Works well as part of a team and communicates clearly
- Stays calm and focused during busy periods
- Is keen to be part of a new opening and grow with the business
Opening Hours & Service Style
Clay will operate as a daytime café, opening 07:00–17:00, with kitchen service running during shorter daytime hours.
