The Role
To manage and optimise the allocation of train units and locomotive stock across a high-volume daily service (circa 1,040 weekday services and 135 units), ensuring efficient resource planning alongside agreed maintenance and examination programmes. The role is responsible for the real-time operational management of live train services across designated geographical areas (Mid & North Wales and South Wales/Marches), supporting the safe and reliable delivery of the timetable. Working as part of the Control function and reporting to the Duty Control Manager, the post holder contributes to the overall delivery of the train service.
Role responsibilities
Provision of rolling stock in accordance with the requirements of the timetable.
Delivery of the train fleet to depots/other agreed locations for maintenance, exam and repair to agreed timescales whilst maintaining Genius integrity.
Management of in-service unit defects and failures, coordinating fitting staff responses with Maintenance Controllers and depots, arranging replacements or set swaps as needed, and ensuring clear communication across all parties
Real-time monitoring of train operations within designated areas, delivering decisive and coordinated interventions with internal teams (traincrew, fleet) and external partners (Network Rail) to minimise delays and maximise service performance
Continual requirement to analyse different problems balancing the needs of the train service with that of the need to maintain the train

Proven understanding of Railway operating procedures
Welsh Language Skills
While not essential for this role, Welsh language skills would make a great addition to your application.
