An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Anaesthetist with an interest in Cardiac Anaesthesia and Cardiac Intensive Care to join a specialist cardiothoracic service in Wales.
You will become part of a dedicated team providing anaesthesia for elective and emergency cardiothoracic surgery, minimally invasive cardiac procedures and comprehensive care within the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. The role also offers opportunities to contribute to service development, education, research and multidisciplinary working within a progressive university healthcare environment.
- Deliver consultant-led anaesthesia for elective and emergency cardiothoracic surgery.
- Provide anaesthetic care for minimally invasive cardiac procedures, including TAVI.
- Support the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU).
- Participate in the 1:8 Cardiac On-Call rota.
- Manage emergency cardiothoracic procedures and cardiac revascularisation.
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality patient care.
- Participate in clinical governance, audit and risk management activities.
- Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain GMC revalidation, appraisal and continuing professional development requirements.
- Full GMC Registration with licence to practise.
- CCT in Anaesthesia (or within six months of interview) or GMC Specialist Registration.
- Advanced Training Module in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia or equivalent experience.
- Testamur status in Perioperative Transoesophageal Echocardiography (PTE) (BSE, EACVI, NBE or equivalent).
- Certification in Perioperative Transoesophageal Echocardiography.
- Fellow of Intensive Care Medicine (FICM) or equivalent.
- Higher degree or diploma.
- Teaching qualification or higher qualification in medical education.
- Previous NHS experience.
- Evidence of effective multidisciplinary working.
- Experience working with management and clinical colleagues to improve services.
- Experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate clinical staff.
- Evidence of clinical audit and quality improvement.
- Experience developing or commissioning anaesthetic services.
- Research experience in Anaesthesia.
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Understanding of Prudent Healthcare principles.
- Good understanding of information systems and technology.
- Clinical expertise in General, Obstetric and Emergency Anaesthesia.
- Knowledge of improvement science and service improvement methodology.
- Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
- Supervise and support junior doctors and trainees.
- Participate in departmental teaching programmes.
- Contribute to clinical audit and governance.
- Support and participate in research and innovation activities.
- Maintain continuing professional development and annual appraisal.
