Primary Objective:

The People and Culture Associate Advisor will provide professional, practical and developing HR support across AKG UK Group, working under the guidance of the Director of People and Culture and wider People and Culture colleagues.

This role is designed as a development pathway toward full People and Culture Advisor capability. The postholder will build confidence, knowledge and professional judgement through supported exposure to people processes, employee relations activity, organisational projects and stakeholder support, while ensuring people matters are handled consistently, fairly and in line with business needs, employment legislation and organisational policies.

Key Responsibilities

The People and Culture Associate Advisor will support the delivery of proactive, practical and professional HR activity across AKG UK Group. Working collaboratively with managers, leaders and colleagues, the role will support people processes, employee relations administration, organisational projects and initiatives that enhance the employee experience, while developing the knowledge, confidence and judgement required to operate at full Advisor level.

Core Responsibilities

Provide first-line HR guidance to managers and employees on routine people queries, escalating more complex or high-risk matters to the Director of People and Culture or relevant People and Culture colleague.
Support employee relations casework, including absence, conduct, capability, grievance and disciplinary matters, by preparing documentation, maintaining records, attending meetings where appropriate and learning how to assess risk and apply policy consistently.
Assist with investigations, meetings and formal processes, supporting managers to follow policies and procedures while developing understanding of employment legislation and good practice.
Support the full employee lifecycle, including onboarding, probation, contractual changes, family leave, flexible working, internal moves and offboarding.
Work with managers and People and Culture colleagues to understand people priorities, support workforce planning activity and build effective stakeholder relationships.
Support People and Culture colleagues with organisational change activity, restructures, consultation processes and other people-related projects, taking on defined tasks and building capability through guided involvement.
Contribute to initiatives that strengthen employee engagement, wellbeing, inclusion and organisational culture across AKG UK Group.
Maintain accurate and confidential HR records, ensuring people data, documentation and correspondence are managed in line with data protection requirements and internal procedures.
Support the review, development and communication of People and Culture policies, procedures and guidance to ensure they remain current, accessible and compliant.
Keep up to date with relevant employment legislation, HR trends and sector best practice, applying this knowledge to support continuous improvement within the People and Culture function.
Actively work toward full People and Culture Advisor capability by completing agreed development objectives, seeking feedback, building confidence in ER case handling and increasing independence over time.
Demonstrate developing professional judgement by recognising when matters require escalation, additional advice or further review before recommendations are made.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Essential

Good communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships in a remote environment and communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders.
Passionate about providing high quality work, strong attention to detail.
Able to identify issues, ask appropriate questions and seek guidance where required to support effective problem solving.
Experience of using HR systems or a willingness and ability to develop confidence in HR systems quickly.
Awareness of Right to Work requirements and a willingness to develop broader employment law knowledge.
Excellent administration, IT, and organisational skills, experience of using MS office software.
A proactive approach to delivering high-quality work and developing professionally.
Some demonstrable HR experience, ideally gained in an HR administration, HR coordinator, people operations or junior advisory role.
Commitment to completing agreed learning and development activities to progress toward full People and Culture Advisor capability.
Desirable
CIPD Level 5 would be advantageous.
Experience in HR Systems, PeopleHR and Reward Gateway.
Development Expectations

Develop confidence in advising managers on routine employee relations matters, with appropriate support and escalation.
Build knowledge of employment legislation, AKG UK policies, HR processes and risk management principles.
Increase ownership of defined HR activities and casework as capability, confidence and professional judgement develop.
Work toward the skills, confidence and independence expected of a full People and Culture Advisor role.
