Job summary
Intervari Design Ltd is looking for a motivated Apprentice Joinery Sprayer to join our workshop team and develop a career in joinery finishing.
This hands-on apprenticeship will provide practical training in preparing, spraying and finishing bespoke joinery components. The successful candidate will learn surface-preparation techniques, spray-gun operation, coating application and quality-control procedures while working alongside experienced members of our team.
We are looking for someone with a positive attitude, strong attention to detail and a genuine interest in learning a skilled trade.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Assist with preparing joinery components for spraying, including sanding, filling, cleaning and masking.
- Learn how to prepare timber, MDF, veneer and previously coated surfaces.
- Learn and apply professional spray-finishing techniques under supervision.
- Assist with mixing and preparing paints, primers, lacquers, stains and other coatings in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions.
- Operate joinery spray-shop tools and equipment under supervision, including spray guns, air compressors, orbital sanders, extraction systems and coating-mixing equipment.
- Apply primers, base coats and finishing coats to bespoke joinery components.
- Check prepared and finished items for surface imperfections, colour consistency and overall finish quality.
- Assist with correcting defects and completing final finishing or polishing work when required.
- Read basic drawings, specifications and finishing schedules to understand the required finish.
- Use basic mathematics to measure, mix and calculate coating quantities accurately.
- Support the movement, storage and protection of components before and after spraying.
- Clean and maintain spray guns, tools, equipment and spray-shop working areas.
- Ensure completed items are handled carefully to prevent damage before wrapping, storage or installation.
- Work with joiners and other workshop employees to ensure components are prepared and finished in accordance with the production programme.
- Follow all company health and safety procedures, including the correct use of personal protective equipment.
- Follow COSHH guidance and safe-working procedures when handling paints, solvents, coatings and cleaning materials.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised spray shop and dispose of waste materials correctly.
- Complete all apprenticeship training, coursework and assessments required by the training provider.

- Basic mathematics skills for measuring and mixing materials.

- Reliable, punctual and able to manage assigned tasks responsibly.
- Ability to work in a busy workshop environment and carry out practical duties that may involve standing, lifting and handling joinery components.
Experience and qualifications
Experience using hand tools, power tools, sanding equipment or spray-finishing equipment would be advantageous.
Experience in joinery, decorating, vehicle spraying, furniture finishing or another practical trade would also be beneficial, but no previous experience is essential as full training will be provided.

During the apprenticeship, the successful candidate will develop practical skills in:
