Shift Manager
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Shift Manager to join our operations team. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for leading the safe, efficient and effective delivery of production and packing activities across your shift. You will oversee people, resources and production performance to ensure that customer requirements, quality standards, service levels and operational targets are consistently achieved. This is a hands-on leadership position within a fast-paced manufacturing environment, requiring strong organisational ability, people management skills and a practical approach to problem-solving.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
You will be responsible for leading and managing the day-to-day activities of the production and packing teams, ensuring that operations run smoothly and efficiently throughout your shift. This includes planning staffing levels and allocating resources to meet production requirements and customer demand.
You will monitor production performance, including output, OEE, downtime, yield, waste and quality, taking action where necessary to maintain performance standards. You will ensure that all production activities are carried out safely, efficiently and in accordance with company procedures and quality requirements.
A key part of your role will be maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene, housekeeping and product traceability across all areas of responsibility. You will ensure that all employees are properly trained, competent and working in line with agreed procedures and safe systems of work.
You will lead, motivate and develop your team, managing performance, attendance and conduct in accordance with company policies and procedures. Working collaboratively with colleagues in Quality, Engineering, Warehouse, Supply Chain and other departments, you will help to resolve operational issues and maintain a consistent production flow.
You will be expected to identify operational problems, determine root causes and implement effective corrective actions. You will actively drive continuous improvement in productivity, efficiency, waste reduction and overall operational performance, while supporting investigations, audits and improvement initiatives as required.
Clear communication is essential in this role, and you will provide regular updates on performance and operational issues to the Operations Manager. You will also deputise for the Operations Manager on agreed matters when required. In addition, you will promote and maintain a strong safety culture, ensuring that any unsafe conditions or practices are addressed and escalated promptly.
ABOUT YOU
The successful candidate will have proven experience in a production, manufacturing or similar operational leadership role, with a strong track record of managing teams and delivering results in a shift-based environment. Experience within finishing, filling, packing, co-pack or a similar manufacturing operation would be highly advantageous.
You will have a good understanding of Health and Safety requirements and safe working practices, along with knowledge of food safety standards, quality systems and product traceability within a manufacturing environment.
Strong planning, organisation and prioritisation skills are essential, as is the ability to use operational data and KPIs to identify issues and drive performance improvements. You will be a confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to lead, motivate and develop a team effectively.
A practical, hands-on approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement is required, along with the ability to work collaboratively with a range of departments and stakeholders. You will also have good IT skills and be confident using operational systems and Microsoft Office applications. Flexibility to work the required shift pattern is essential.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
Experience of Lean, TPM or other continuous improvement methodologies would be beneficial, as would a relevant qualification in manufacturing, operations, logistics or leadership. Experience working to customer KPIs, SLAs or specific customer requirements would also be advantageous.
