Overview
The Wild Mane Project is a new not-for-profit project that delivers structured sessions outdoors, combining equine-assisted learning and wilderness living skills.
This role supports the safe and effective delivery of sessions, working alongside the Session Lead to maintain a calm, organised and well-managed environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of sessions as directed by the Session Lead
- Assist participants appropriately during activities
- Maintain a safe and organised working environment
- Support session flow, including transitions and group management
- Support 1:1 sessions and assist in pony handling duties
- Assisting Vulnerable participants
Practical Responsibilities
- Assist with setup and pack down of sessions
- Support pony care and safe handling during sessions
- Support outdoor activities and tasks
- Carry out site maintenance and fencing repairs
- Assist as a team, with conservation of the area
This role also includes day-to-day operational tasks, such as:
- Transporting water to horses using a water bladder
- Moving equipment across the site
- Supporting general site tasks as required
- Security of the site and lock up
Session Delivery (Occasional)
At times, you may be required to:
- Support or lead small group activities
- Take responsibility for a designated task or a small group
All delivery remains under the direction of the Session Lead.
Requirements
- Full UK driving licence (essential)
- Confidence driving in rural or uneven environments
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to carry out physical tasks
Safeguarding
- An enhanced DBS check will be required for this role
- Employment is subject to satisfactory DBS clearance
Skills and Qualities
- Confident and experienced working around horses
- Good understanding of basic horse care, handling, and safety
- Practice in an outdoor, working environment
- Aware of what is happening around you, people, animals, and surroundings
- Able to follow direction and support structured sessions
- Practical and hands-on approach
- Experience in outdoor or wilderness-based environments
- Basic understanding of practical outdoor skills (or a relevant background)
Working Pattern
- Casual / zero-hours
- Work offered as required based on sessions
- Hours will vary
- Sessions may be affected by weather conditions

This is an outdoor, practical role involving work with horses and equipment.
The role requires a hands-on approach and the ability to adapt to changing conditions.
Pay: £13.45 per hour
Experience:
- Horse Care: 3 years (required)
- Outdoor Skills: 1 year (preferred)
