Building Surveyor / Junior Building Surveyor
Salary: £28,000-£45,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
Smith & Brenson is a trusted construction company, delivering high-quality projects across public, private and not-for-profit sectors in commercial and domestic settings since 2006. We work with clients in education, local government, healthcare, emergency services and leisure, as well as insurance reinstatement and landmark heritage projects.
Much of our work is in the region of £80-£200,000 in value, but projects can range from half a day to multi-million-pound fire and flood damage schemes over a year in duration. This variety gives you exposure to a wide range of clients and project types on properties of all ages.
We are now looking for a full-time Building Surveyor / Junior Building Surveyor to enhance our team of in-house surveyors, project managers and health and safety professionals and site staff. A good fit is as important to us as it is to you and we are flexible in who we are looking for. You could be at any stage of your building surveying career; newly-qualified, currently studying or experienced, but not qualified. This is a hands-on, office-based role with regular site visits within a 50-mile radius of our head office on the outskirts of Bristol (BS16 postcode).
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct site visits and surveys, prepare schedules of works and produce client quotes
- Project manage selected projects
- Support the designated director currently responsible for job resource planning and coordination for selected clients
- Liaise with clients, contractors, consultants, suppliers and loss adjusters where required
- Assist the directors and quantity surveyor with insurance claims administration, to include valuations and variations, depending on project scope, size and value
- Providing building surveying input in the preparation of competitive tenders
About You
- You may have a BSc in Building Surveying or related discipline, currently working towards one (or a MSc) and/or possess equivalent, non-qualified practical experienced
- Working knowledge of standard construction industry contracts, e.g. JCT
- Strong ability to read, interpret and extract quantities from construction drawings and technical specifications
- Full UK driving licence
- Organised and detail-focused, able to manage multiple tasks and communicate effectively
- Comfortable working in both office and site settings
- Competent IT, written and numeracy skills to support the requirements of your role, including bespoke client software
- Commitment to site health and safety good practice
- Willingness to have an Enhanced DBS criminal record check undertaken
Desirable Requirements
- Awareness of and working knowledge of quantity surveying principles
- Experience in construction site operations
- Familiarity with CAD or dedicated, building surveying-related software and programmes
