About Us
As we celebrate our 45th Anniversary, Clydebank Musical Society is seeking an experienced and inspirational Director to lead our 2027 production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast.
Founded in 1981, Clydebank Musical Society is a thriving registered charity with over 150 members across our Adult, Junior and Mini sections. We pride ourselves on producing high-quality musical theatre while creating an inclusive, supportive and enjoyable environment for performers of all abilities.
The Opportunity
We're looking for a Director who combines creative ambition with outstanding leadership.
You'll have the opportunity to bring your own artistic vision to one of Disney's most iconic musicals while working alongside an experienced Musical Director, Choreographer, Stage Management team and supportive committee.
This is more than directing a show. It's about inspiring a company of volunteers to achieve something special together.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver auditions alongside the Musical Director and Choreographer
- Lead casting decisions
- Develop the artistic vision of the production
- Block and direct all scenes
- Support performers through character development
- Work collaboratively with the Musical Director and Choreographer
- Produce rehearsal schedules and communicate weekly plans
- Attend production meetings with the committee
- Prepare technical information for lighting, sound and stage management
- Lead technical rehearsals before opening night
- Foster a positive, inclusive and respectful rehearsal environment
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Previous directing experience within musical theatre
- Experience working with adult performers
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Strong leadership qualities
- Ability to manage rehearsals effectively
- Collaborative working style
Desirable
- Experience directing large ensemble productions
- Experience working with performers of varying experience levels
- Strong understanding of character development
- Knowledge of Disney's Beauty and the Beast
- Experience working within amateur theatre

Rehearsal Schedule
Workshop evenings
September 2026
Regular rehearsals
Every Tuesday
7:00pm – 9:30pm
Sunday rehearsals
From February 2027
Typically 2:00pm – 8:00pm (with breaks) / 2:00pm - 5:00pm (with breaks)
Additional principal rehearsals may be arranged where required but are flexible and agreed in advance.
