We currently have a vacancy for an experienced cook to work within Georgie Porgie Nursery
At Georgie Porgie Nursery we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of day care and nursery education from 6 weeks to 5 years. We recognise what an important role we play in each child’s development. Most of all, we want our children to be happy, healthy, confident and secure.
We require an experienced cook to:
- Be able to demonstrate a positive interest in children’s food and nutrition.
- Plan, create and implement a nutritious and balanced food menu with fresh vegetables and fruit, ensuring a low sugar and salt content to meet the needs of our children.
- Be able to prepare and cook healthy food for a large number of children.
- Have a good understanding of food allergens and individual dietary requirements, and being responsible for adapting menus where necessary.
- To follow standard food hygiene procedures (e.g. food temperature checks and monitoring).
- Work in partnership with the other cook.
You will need to:
- Hold as a minimum a level 2 Food Safety in Catering (Basic Food Hygiene) this can be achieved prior to your start
- Prepare a healthy morning and afternoon snack
- Prepare a nutritious, balanced and healthy lunch
- Prepare tea eg: making sandwiches/crackers or pitta breads
- Ensure all areas of the kitchen are hygienically maintained at all times, in accordance with Health & Safety Regulations
- Ensure that equipment and materials are cleaned and everything is cleared away leaving the Kitchen neat and tidy at the end of the day.
- Monitor food supplies, rotating food supplies daily and ensuring appropriate food levels through the weekly food order.
- Ability to work well with others and being able to use your own initiative, however you would be working alone.
- Have good communication skillsWhilst experience would be preferable this role may also be suitable for someone with no previous experience but has a love of cooking for children. Full training will be given
The working hours are 10 hours every Friday.
All employment is offered subject to a 6 month probationary period and completion of Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and 2 written references.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: £13.10 per hour
