Are you an experienced CNC Machinist looking for a varied engineering role where no two days are the same?
A K Industries is a successful, privately owned precision plastic injection moulding company supplying high-quality components to customers across the medical, defence, water management, industrial and consumer sectors.
We're looking for an NVQ Level 3 qualified CNC Machinist / Toolroom Technician to join our dynamic, multi-skilled Engineering Department, working alongside experienced Toolmakers, Manufacturing Engineers, Maintenance Engineers and NPI Engineers. Applicants in their final year of their apprenticeship will be considered.
This role offers far more than traditional CNC machining. You'll manufacture precision one-off and small batch components, support the maintenance and repair of precision injection mould tooling, assist with tool strip-down and reassembly, and contribute to engineering improvement projects across the business.
Working with modern XYZ and Hurco CNC milling machines and lathes, you'll programme, set and operate CNC equipment, reverse engineer obsolete components where drawings no longer exist, and develop your knowledge of precision injection mould tooling within a supportive engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Programme, set and operate XYZ and Hurco CNC milling machines and lathes.
- Manufacture precision one-off and small batch components to fine tolerances.
- Produce replacement tooling components from engineering drawings.
- Reverse engineer worn, damaged or obsolete tooling components where drawings no longer exist, using existing parts, precision measurement and engineering judgement to manufacture accurate replacements.
- Manufacture bespoke jigs, fixtures and engineering components to support production, maintenance and continuous improvement projects.
- Assist with the strip-down, inspection, maintenance, repair and reassembly of precision injection mould tools.
- Support planned tool servicing, engineering changes and breakdown repairs.
- Select appropriate machining methods, cutting tools and workholding solutions.
- Inspect your own work using precision measuring equipment to ensure components meet specification.
- Work collaboratively with Toolmakers and the wider Engineering Department to minimise downtime and improve manufacturing performance.
- Maintain high standards of quality, housekeeping and health & safety.
What We're Looking For
Essential
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent apprenticeship) in Mechanical Engineering, Machining, Toolmaking or a related engineering discipline. Applicants in the final year of their apprenticeship will be considered.
- Experience programming, setting and operating CNC milling machines and lathes.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Experience producing precision engineered components to tight tolerances.
- Strong understanding of machining processes, engineering materials and cutting tools.
- Competent using precision measuring equipment including micrometers, verniers, bore gauges and height gauges.
- A methodical approach with excellent attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative engineering team.
Desirable
- Experience with XYZ and/or Hurco CNC controls.
- Previous Toolroom or precision engineering experience.
- Experience supporting plastic injection mould tooling.
- Manual milling, turning, surface grinding or EDM experience.
- CAD/CAM programming experience.
- Experience reverse engineering precision components.
