Salary: £48,000 - £50,000 + Overtime available.
Due to planned growth, we are looking for an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join the team. We specialise in manufacturing and processing timber. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced engineer who wants to join a dynamic, established but growing company.
The Role
We're looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join the engineering team at our client's Lockerbie site, maintaining a wide range of heavy industrial machinery and production equipment.
Reporting to the Shift Engineering Supervisor, you'll carry out planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs and breakdown response across a fast-paced production environment, helping maximise plant reliability and minimise downtime.
This role would suit someone from manufacturing, heavy industry, agricultural engineering, plant maintenance, quarrying, mining or similar hands-on mechanical backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities

Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM)

Respond to breakdowns quickly and efficiently

Diagnose and repair mechanical faults

Maintain and overhaul:
- Bearings
-
Gearboxes
-
Pumps
-
Conveyors
-
Hydraulics
-
Pneumatics
-
Chains and drive systems
- Carry out workshop repairs and on-site maintenance

Work safely in accordance with permit systems and risk assessments

Support continuous improvement initiatives
-
Work closely with production teams to minimise downtime

Maintain excellent housekeeping standards
About You
We're keen to speak with candidates who have practical mechanical engineering experience.
Ideally you'll have:

A recognised Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification (time served also eligible)

Experience within manufacturing, production or industrial maintenance

Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills

Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics

A proactive attitude and willingness to learn

Good communication skills and the ability to work within a team

Paid 30-minute break

Night shift includes an additional paid 15-minute break
Overtime & Bonus
Regular overtime is available, particularly Saturdays (6:00am-2:00pm).
Overtime rates:

First 5 hours: Time and a Half

Thereafter: Double Time
Employees also benefit from a production bonus (If production targets are hit), paid every six months, with a minimum payment of £250.
