About the opportunity
Hudson MOT Centre & Garage is looking for experienced self-employed mechanics and vehicle technicians who want to carry out repair and maintenance work from an established garage in Leeds.
Successful technicians will have access, subject to agreement and availability, to our workshop facilities, including vehicle ramps, mechanical tools, diagnostic facilities, tyre-fitting equipment and related garage resources.
This opportunity may suit an experienced mechanic who has technical ability and customers but does not currently have suitable workshop premises, or someone seeking additional flexible work alongside their existing business.
Work available may include
- Vehicle servicing
- Mechanical repairs
- Brakes and suspension
- Steering components
- Exhaust work
- Diagnostics
- Electrical fault finding
- Clutches and general mechanical work
- Tyre fitting and replacement
- Pre-MOT repairs
- Hybrid vehicle work where suitably trained and authorised
How the arrangement works
- Work is completed on a self-employed contractor basis.
- Earnings are based on an agreed share of labour revenue or an agreed fee per job.
- Hudson may provide customer enquiries and workshop bookings.
- Contractors may also introduce their own customers, subject to prior agreement.
- Access to ramps, workshop facilities and specified equipment is provided under agreed terms.
- Parts, consumables, warranty work, rework and payment responsibilities will be agreed before work starts.
- No employment or guaranteed-hours arrangement is offered.
- Contractors remain responsible for their own tax, National Insurance, records and appropriate insurance.
Essential requirements
- Proven professional mechanical experience
- Ability to diagnose and complete work safely without constant supervision
- Own basic hand tools
- Evidence of relevant qualifications or substantial trade experience
- Right to work in the UK
- Ability to provide invoices as a self-employed contractor
- Reliable, professional and respectful with customers
- Good understanding of workshop health and safety
Desirable requirements
- Level 2 or Level 3 motor vehicle qualification
- Diagnostic experience
- Tyre-fitting experience
- Hybrid or electric vehicle qualification
- Full UK driving licence
- Existing customer base
- Public liability or motor-trade insurance
