About us
Clifford Roberts is a well-established firm of Chartered Accountants and Tax Advisers based in Wellingborough, working with a varied portfolio of owner-managed businesses and corporate clients across all sectors. We pride ourselves on building genuine, long-term relationships with our clients and giving them clear, practical advice — not just compliance for compliance's sake.
We're a friendly, down-to-earth team who value good technical work just as much as we value good people skills. We're also actively investing in cloud accounting and modern ways of working, and we want someone who's keen to be part of that.
The role
We're looking for an experienced accountant to join our team, focusing primarily on:
- Preparation of year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
- Preparation of corporation tax computations and returns
- Working from client records (including incomplete records) through to finalised accounts
- Liaising directly with clients to gather information and discuss their figures
- General accounts and compliance support as needed
This is a hands-on preparation role rather than a supervisory one — ideal for someone who enjoys getting stuck into the detail and dealing with clients directly, without line-management responsibilities.
What we're looking for
- Minimum 4 years' experience working in a general accountancy practice — qualification by experience is absolutely fine; formal qualifications (AAT, part-qualified ACA/ACCA) are welcome but not required if you've got the practical background
- Confident, hands-on user of Xero and comfortable with cloud accounting software generally
- Experience with IRIS accounts production software would be a great advantage (not essential)
- Genuinely open to adopting new technology and ways of working — we're investing in our systems and want people who'll embrace that, not resist it
- Strong communicator who's comfortable speaking directly with clients, building rapport and explaining things clearly
- A good team player who gets on well with colleagues — we're a small, friendly office and personality fit matters to us
- Accurate, organised, and able to manage your own workload to deadlines
Hours and flexibility
We genuinely welcome applications from those looking for full-time or part-time hours, including arrangements that fit around school hours. We're happy to discuss what would work for you.
Why join us
- Varied, interesting client base — no two days the same
- Real investment in modern, cloud-based working practices
- Supportive, friendly team environment
- Genuine flexibility on hours for the right person
